It's not a christmas song. This is actually the last song Freddie ever wrote. He was in his apartment in Montreux and looked out of the window and just wrote down what he saw. Beatiful song. Very soothing and he even though he's about to die, he sounds very peaceful. ❤

I love those last words, happy that that was how Freddie was feeling at that time in spite of his situation, hopefully that he had peace.

For me, it's a hymn to the beauty and wonder of life, from the POV of a dying man, looking out of his sick-room window and seeing it all, clearly, as if for the first time. After he'd gone, the other band members put together this video and added the backing using the basic vocal lines Freddie had managed to record at the Montreaux, Switzerland studio, in his extremely weakened state. The handwriting that appears with the lyrics are Freddie's own notes.

Haven't followed your site until now. Anyway, want to tell, I knew Freddie when he made this song in Montreux. Didn't know he was "the Freddie Mercury" at the time, we were just talking and laughing because he was there, I was a student and only interested in sports...and piano..didn't know who he was. He probably thought it was good that II had no idea. He was such a nice person.. It's not a Christmas song. It's a beautiful song about dreams and the differences in each other's dreams. I'm from Norway. We have snow and cold winters there.

Freddie was very sick when he sang this, still the beautiful voice...

I could feel that was one of the reasons why it felt so melancholy, also with him and his position it’s still a very much beautiful song.

Freddie's lyrics fabulous truth - "the dream of the child is the hope of the man". BTW, don't see the song as a Christmas song . . . it's Freddie sharing his life as it had evolved (tragically ), Fabulous Freddie loving the life he had at the moment. Thanks for the reaction.

It so is nice to see you back! Your reactions are usually thoughtful, and you always react to such interesting song choices, that many other reactors would not react to. Perhaps I could suggest something very different, something you might almost be able too dance to, Cool Cat (1982) kzitem.info/news/bejne/zIqlqamPn514fGk. Or if you want to react to another emotional type of song from Queen's last album try, Don't Try So Hard (1991) kzitem.info/news/bejne/w22hu5dri5V-pJg. It is a great song, with really astonishing vocals. Actually both of these songs have amazing vocals.

Thanks for this reaction - it's a bit hard to listen to, if you know the background - as Sanna says below -- Freddie just wanted to create as much as he could before he left us -- don't know if you've yet reviewed "Show must go on"? - kzitem.info/news/bejne/1W9vsXxmjYRefWk - and the classic story of how Brian thought Freddie might not be strong enough: Mercury was so ill when the band recorded the song in 1990 that May had concerns as to whether he was physically capable of singing it. Recalling Mercury's performance, May states; "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing.' And he went, 'I'll fucking do it, darling'-vodka down-and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal"
