Hi Bob I've been watching your videos for a few days now and I must say I am extremely impressed with your methodologies. I myself have 200 hives in Australia (obviously not as big as you) and breed Caucasian Queens too. I want to ask you about these cell builders. You mentioned in the video that you have a queen excluder on the cell builders, does that mean there is also a queen in that hive? We do something similar when we produce cells. We pick 2 of the oldest queens we can find in the Apiary and plant cells in their hive (without queen excluders). This method was tough to us by an old beekeeper and the theory behind it is that the hive will produce swarm cells rather than emergency cells which results in better queens. The success rate that I see in this video is incredible! I hope you have a nice day.

Thanks Bob this is something I need to do and want to do with the queen cells but at my age I can not see like I could at your workers age . I would probably end up with one good one and all the other would be duds . I just have to save a little each month so I can purchase my queens when needed . Sumac flow on up here. And so is the heat! 99 deg 2 days. I am dragging this 3rd day. My bees handle it better than I, the dogs, cattle and horses. I can not imagine grafting with sweat running in my eyes. And wearing mags to see well... so getting motion sick with sweat dripping... did I mention sweat? Trying a Nicot soon as nuc sales are finished up. Finding a few queens and loading in a Nicot gotta be easier. Stay cool everyone. It's brutal!

Love your videos, can you explain what you have in the bottom box and what is in the top box? My 89 year old beekeeper friend here in SW Washington is desperately wanting to graft a few queens. He is not doing something right. He has watched your grafting video and only watches your videos I can only assume he is not doing something that needs to be done? He has Failed both attempts to get even one graft to take. I think he is only using one deep box, that is why I asked what you have in the two boxes? He is a dear man who has been a beekeeper since he was a young boy, now with his age I am trying somehow to help him graft a Queen of his own, his bucket list item. He wants to be able to say he grafted a few queens. I can’t find anyone here in WA. I can talk too or watch that grafts queens, I have tried. Thank you Bob for any advice.
@bobbinnie9872
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marine Vet. Any box full of fresh, young, queenless bees will grow out grafted cells if the graft is done properly. It's possible that the box is not actually queenless for some reason. He also could accidentally be flipping the larvae over when grafting which results in dead larvae. They have to stay in the position they were in when picked up. My guess is that he's doing something wrong in the grafting stage or he would have at least a couple take. Perhaps there is some contamination of cells or the grafting tool itself along the way.

I have a question about queens,. What is the best weather and condition for queen grafting???
@bobbinnie9872
2 жыл бұрын
The very best time is when the colonies are generally preparing to swarm. Nutrition, the condition of the colony and drone population are usually good then. Warm, late spring weather also helps. Hot and dry weather with a dearth is problematic.
