some killer climbs but soooo worth it. when my friends and i did it a few years back we did the same legs as you. and as soon as i saw the shots of clibing the road out of portage i had flashbacks, then the pushing after it and i remembered that climb so well.. hahahha well done!

Yes, the climbs were intense ay! I've cycle toured around NZ but this trail put me through it all 😅 everyone seems to 'remember' the difficulties and rewards of QC, so that makes it special. Thank you for watching 🙂

I feel a little (home away from) home sick... We had a batch from when I was knee high to a sandfly in Ngakuta Bay (The large bay above the sign at 8:08. Smashing puddles in the winter and sunburn in the summer.... did I mention the sandflies.... trolling the sounds for Kahawai, kayaking to Momorangi for a pint box of ice-cream and a plastic spoon... Last time I was there I took one of my Kayaks over on the ferry, up to Arapawa Isle and watched the Endevour replica exit tory channel (Oh for a camera, us and it's support vessel were the only ones there). I rate 'The Sounds' as the best spot in NZ... (and I have been almost everywhere else bar fiordland, on the books for next year)... if only it wasn't so expensive to go to the batch we may have kept it... Sigh...

What nice memories! 😊 Thankfully we didn't encounter any sandflies... But maybe it was too cold. It seems many people love the Sounds and have happy memories there. It's a magical place!

@@lizzievarley3545 Even when the weather is miserable.. its great. We had a corrugated iron shed for 25 years 1k from the sea and NO RUST. There's a bay across from Picton long protected, that you can hand feed the fish, and even the odd snapper/gurnard appear from the depths (40+ years of fishing protection and locals feeding the fish make for a great experience but boat access only).

Never underestimate a Weka... While your watching the "cute one" his mate is tying your shoelaces together. We had one rock up to our picnic and like a pro, flipped off the chilly bin lid and was in checking out what was on the menu. If you spot them on the waters edge in Picton (I'd call it a beach but its more rotten rock mixed with mud...) you flip over the odd rock and the Weka will follow you round picking the crabs... Ever notice they look you in the eye.... they're sizing you up.. deciding if they'll let u be, or con you out off all your goodly possessions. The Weka should be the national bird, not some shy thing that comes out only in the dark and most NZ'ers will NEVER see in the wild.

@@TheButlerNZ Agreed! Wekas are super smart and funny. They are clever at foraging and inquisitive enough to know where the good stuff is. When I visit my friend in rural Nelson, we have to keep screens over the doorways to stop them coming into the house and eating the cat food.

@@lizzievarley3545 I love the way when they have a chick, they do a 'one for me, one for you' thing where they eat a bit, then the next they hold, and the chick runs up and takes it... unlike the Muscovys in my back yard that happily use their ducklings as stepping stones to get a feed...
