Hello to all viewers and especially to whoever is in charge of "The Vault". My name is Bruce Schultz and I am the producer/director of this video which was shot on a dubbing stage with overhead film projection in early 1980 as the Flash Gordon promotional piece for Universal Studios/Los Angeles. It is my voice which can be heard at the head slate. This clip is placed in the first segment of a full one-hour show featuring concert footage from Hammersmith Odeon concerts in 1979 as well as interstitial footage of various actors dressed in Flash Gordon costumes. It was the first venture for Universal to make this show which pre-dated MTV by a few years, and the Queen band members were responsive to the project in full. I have some production pictures from this shoot which I could post at some point, but this is the true history of this version. The Queen archivist posted a shorter re-edited version which is the predominant version shown on KZitem, however, as I said - this is the original version of the Queen/Flash Gordon music video. The Vault - if you have a copy of the full show which seems likely since that is the only way one could have this clip, then please reach out to me about the ability to get a copy to me as I have just recently lost all of my archives in a fire and no longer have a version of the full show. You can verify that it is actually me by looking at the head credits where you will find my name as well as my co-producer Johanna Persons listed on the screen. Thanks, and to all - happy viewing!

@Bruce Schultz - Thanks from a random viewer for this information! This is the version I remember seeing as a child… all the way south in Caracas, Venezuela! In the 1970s and early 1980s we had a late-night show called _La Música que Sacudió el Mundo,_ or _Music that Shook the World._ The show aired on Canal Cinco: literally channel 5 on the dial, but also known by the call name Channel Five, the way channel 4 was called Venevisión and channel 2 was called Radio Caracas Televisión. (I forget what 8 and 10 were called… maybe 8 was Venevista?) It was one of our two state-owned stations, equivalent to PBS. So it aired cultural programming, which to my great fortune included this rock-and-roll show! It aired pretty late on Sunday nights, but my otherwise strict mom for some reason would always let me stay up late to watch it. Through them I discovered Queen - and David Bowie, the Jackson 5, Elton John, all sorts of good stuff! I even remember clearly, around the time “Bicycle Race” was first on the platter at every cousin’s birthday party I got dragged to, first hearing “Bohemian Rhapsody” when this show aired its video… and I remember the exact moment it BLEW MY MIND APART!! So at some point they aired this exact “Flash!” video (this portion of the longer production you describe), and I wanted to let you know: your work reached this young viewer all the way over and up in the high coastal mountains of South America, and touched his childhood heart!! Freddie Mercury was actually kind of a life-saving male role model for me, at a time when I was seriously questioning the “strong silent” type’s many flaws - not sexuality, or preference; rather, simply wondering why I should wedge my exuberant self into the round hole of humorless, drab, un-demonstrative, colorless “masculinity” my every elder seemed hellbent on forcing me into. Freddie Mercury provided me his very comforting “Darling, fuck all that!” reply: a man could be colorful, and sly, and bombastic, and funny, and a whole explosion of emotions all at once, all while bravely commanding whole stadia with just an arm gesture and his voice. So it was Queen’s music, but at least in this instance it was in part your work that allowed their music to reach me… and to quite genuinely and literally change my whole life - for the better! And all the way in Latin America no less, decades ago one balmy Sunday night. So having the rare opportunity, I wanted to thank you! Your work yielded positive results rippling out quite far. I’m sorry you suffered a fire, I hope you get the tape you’re looking for, and are able to replace most of what you lost.

This is what entertainment should be all about, so many great elements came together, Peter Wyngarde's voice as Klytus deserves a special mention... This needs a HD remaster.

Thank you Queen! Thank you The Vault for putting this up! I was 8 years old when I heard this and because of this I cannot say "Flash" without saying "Ha Ha"............... It is a sin to say "Flash" without the "Ha Ha" afterwards....... This song in particular has been ingrained in my head since I first heard it at the cinema! Most memorable movie soundtrack of all time pants down!

With a little whit whittling away at what is what in a flash of a bulb or pan!
What a shame about the sound quality.... I just had a go at improving it, but can't get it anywhere near OK, as the bass just hugely distorts.... I take it the song is the same version as the single? But extra overdubs from the movie... Maybe someone could recreate the music using clips from the movie and the single... then put the video without sound over it! ...I can think of doing it, but getting round to do it... maybe by the year 2525! lol
