Queen is speaking about man's inhumanity throughout history, they call on us to keep trying to overcome the inhumanity, also to be our true selves. The innuendo is mankind will always be as it always has been, but we must keep trying, be kind to one another and keep smiling.

The last verse always gets me. Freddie is asking God if existence has a reason; if life has any meaning at all. It is especially poignant since he is facing the end of his own. He was very brave. Great Reaction, Rory.

Interesting note on this video (I think) is that where it was animated clips from various Queen concerts and music videos, each band member was done in particular artist's style: Freddie in style of daVinci, Brian in style of Victorian etchings, Roger in the style of Jackson Pollack, and John in the style of Picasso.

I love this video. It won the top award for originality the year it came out, it is so incredible. This song is fantastic, too, I see it as the Freddie's final masterpiece in his progressive trilogy of compound songs those being March of the Black Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody and Innuendo, one being an obvious stepping stone to the next. Steve Howe (Yes Band) plays with Brian on the Spanish Guitar portion. He thought Queen was crazy to invite him to play on the title track of a Queen album and at first he really didn't think he could pull it off but after taking a bit to practice it, he aces it on this studio version. Thank you for reacting to this outstanding song and video.

Freddie knew he was dying, so was asking the big questions, and musically it was dark as they know his time is short, so they were like 'fuck it' let's make real art music - it doesn't matter if its a hit - things are more important than that. and weirdly it made a big fan favourite ... Great reaction :)

Thank you for doing this Rory!! For me this is Queen's greatest masterpiece. The more you listen to the lyrics and look at the images, the more you understand what it's about. Written by Freddie and Roger but as per their later agreement to share the royalties on all their later songs it was credited to Queen. The great Steve Howe from "Yes" playing the flamenco guitar with Brian - all recorded live at Queen's studio in Montreux, which is where Freddie's statue is looking over Lake Geneva. A visit is on my bucket list - the studio is now a museum with so much original work in it. A really lovely analysis as always - you picked up on things I hadn't after listening to it for over 30 years! Your insight and musical knowledge is second to none and that's what sets you and your channel apart - and one of the many reasons I adopted you! Sweet...........🔥❤️🐾

Isn’t it amazing that Freddie’s voice sounded so great and strong and the poor guy was having to lean on the mixing desk with his mic because how sick he was at this time. Only months away from passing away. That entire album is absolutely spectacular! It’s the last one they did together before he died. It’s the first time they ever had a guest guitar player. The guy from YES did the cha cha sounding part before Brian came in and tore it up!! I’m so glad you have reacted to this. Freddie actually wrote it even though it’s credited to Queen.

Freddie didn't give a shit about his body betraying him... He was adamant about putting out as much music as he was able to and now the stakes were high. No more synth nonsense... No more bullshit! He wanted Queen to be Queen again, and this album is a beautiful testament to that!

Great reaction. Yup, Steve Howe from Yes, and Mercury had been friends for several years. He was ask to guest after he popped his head into the studio to say he'd be in town. Boy did he use his time well (2 sessions in 1 day) to really shine with his intricate flamenco-style runs. Howe has said he was "so proud" to have played on the song and he became the only Queen non-member to have played guitar on a studio recording of a Queen song. Queen were always a tight-knit unit, they resisted the lure of guest musicians, preferring to keep everything in house in the studio. Exceptions are Bowie/Under Pressure and Joan Armatrading/Don’t Lose Your Head. “That wildness and craziness Queen had was a front,” the guitarist told Prog. “It was a front for intelligence, talent and ability, and practice. These guys just knew the game.” - Steve Howe

Powerful music and message here. But, I'm caught up in the video evidencing Freddie's situation had progressed so Queen's creative visuals include the four of them artistically presented. Quite wonderful, if only ---. For me, It is a favorite track and album. Freddie left brilliant messaging for generations to come. Hoping we'll work toward a better world than he's leaving.

I have not seen you in far too long, Rory. When this popped up in my feed, I clicked fast 1) because of Queen 2) because of "Innuendo" and 3) because it was you doing the Reaction. It is so wonderful seeing you again. I missed you. (And if you were here all along, shame on me!) Fantastic Reaction. Your insights were brilliant. I agree with many others who see this as the end of the Trilogy that began with "March of the Black Queen," then moved to "Bohemian Rhapsody," and finishes with "Innuendo." Thank you for this!

Thank you Rory. You are so good at visualizing the music; the music is like dark storm clouds with Freddie's voice like a stream of light coming from above." Poetic visualization that describes the feeling perfectly. Wonderful interpretation. Thank you for sharing that and helping us think about music in different terms. The other song with them dressed up, probably "It's a Hard Life"

It was from Fred’s last album during his lifetime- innuendo 1991. The video had the band animated to be drawn from different artists like Picasso as Fred not in good shape to make a video. Remember listening to the top 40 show on Radio 1 to see what chart position this would get to……it was so unusual I didn’t know what to expect…got to the top 10, no sign, top 5, nope then it got to number 2 & I thought holy moly it’s either #1 or didn’t chart at all….and bang #1 it was.

This is certainly a stand out track. It reminds me of Queen returning to their roots. Shout out to Steve Howe (from Yes and Asia) for the Spanish guitar. I read somewhere that Roger started writing it but Freddie finished it. I'm sure others here will know if that's true?

Masterpiece. To me it is Bohemian Rhapsody rewritten by a man looking death in the eye and searching for meaning, helped out by his bandmate Roger Taylor to put the ideas into lyrics. Does nothing really matter to him? (although that lyric could be read ironically in BR.) He intuits there is a reason, there is justice somewhere, it's just behind the mask. Like we have all done, the singer pleads - Show yourself! Destroy our fears! The song urges us to shed pretense and free ourselves and one another, noting that this has been a long project of humanity seeking meaning, in fact it is the human condition to dance together despite suffering, to band together for good or for evil, to keep on going on that journey towards truth and goodness, as symbolized by the wagon towards the end.

It wasn't particularly unusual for Queen to go dark at times. One song that springs immediately to mind is 'Death on Two Legs'. The opening is wildly grand, almost overly before turning into the most vengeful, venomous, magnificet slice of vitriol. Freddie's utter distain for the subject of the song is almost tangible.

Innuendo is Queen paying homage to Led Zeppelin .. “Kashmir”🎶🎶 The song was pieced together “like a jigsaw puzzle”. The recurring theme (with the Bolero-sequence beat) started off as a jam session between Brian, John, & Roger. Freddie then added the melody & some of the lyric, which were then completed by Roger. 😁
