+underyourskindvd No this was after she SOLD OUT to Black Feminism. This song is about Feminist unity NOT Black unity. Latifah and her handlers realized there was more publicity and money to be had if she turned herself into a fake "Black Feminist" and started attacking Black men in her songs. Thus, Latifah came out with the sexist, bigoted, and separatist "Ladies First" rap song. This was soon to be followed by the song "U-N-I-T-Y" which posited itself as a "men and women should get together" rap song, but was in fact a vicious attack on Black men filled with negative stereotypes of Black men and positive stereotypes of Black women. This is the classic "bait and switch" game played by "Black feminists": start out like you want to be united with Black men, but end up attacking Black men if they are unwilling to kiss feminist ass.

In my early 20s there was a club called "Stereo" where we would always party. They played exactly this kind of music, basically the whole old school hip hop era. This was over 10 years ago now, which already feels like an eternity for me. I miss these times so bad. This song just took me back

"You gotta let'em know" "You ain't a bitch or a Hoe" "U.N.I.T.Y" Now we have musicians rapping about calling women bitches , hoes, thots and etc. Smh ! Can someone pleaseeeeeee invent a timeline so I can go back and relive the 90s all over again.???? (Wishful thinking) Who remembers when rap actually made sense and had meaning to it? (Raise hands)

Heard this message as a 11 yr old when it was playing on MTV..the standard it gave me for how I should be treated as a woman in a relationship I think has made me have better relationships with men ..more than I think I would have had I not heard this song. I think I dodged a lot of unnecessary hardship and can stand up and know my worth when it really counts, and I’m really grateful for that. On top of that it’s a freaking badass song and video..the vibe is off the charts!!!
