Queen Máxima visited a Humanitarian Service Point for refugees from Ukraine in Amsterdam on Wednesday afternoon. On March 10, the first 200 refugees arrived there. The Red Cross and the Municipality of Amsterdam have set up a transfer location in event center RAI where refugees are received and where help requests from Ukrainians are inventoried. The RAI will offer them a place where they can stay for the foreseeable future.
Queen Máxima spoke with employees of the Red Cross and the municipality of Amsterdam about starting up the location and about cooperation with other organizations in areas such as transport and information provision. Máxima also spoke with refugees about the situation in Ukraine, their trip to the Netherlands and contact with their loved ones who have stayed behind. During the tour, volunteers told about their efforts to give the refugees a warm welcome and about their first experiences at the service point. At the end there was a round table discussion with employees of the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland and Takecarebnb, the organization that links refugees and host families.
