This video is great and helps explain why it's good not to damage palm trees with spikes. Thank you!

I have a Queen Palm in the front yard here in soCal that I planted as a sapling over 25 years ago. It is strong and healthy, but I may want to plant something else there instead, (an Oak tree is what I have in mind). But, how long could this old Palm beauty survive if I left it in place? Do they live longer than ,oh, 30 years? Any hints are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is there a lack of nutrients that contribute to this? Copper comes to mind as it helps palms combat many fungus issues.

I heard from an expert that this problem occurs when the palm is planted at an advanced size. He also said that, for this not to happen, the ideal thing is for the queen palm to be about 2 meters high when it is planted.

6:09 My neighbours make a heap of mulch till the point where these roots are growing on thier Roystonea Regia's, im thinking.. if they had planted a Phoenex Dactylifera's like me.. they would be adding like 8-10 feet of mulch.. 🤣

Man, both of our giants have climbing spike damage. Going strong for a while. A month ago i see this hard mushroom thing growing from the roots. Ok. Then the upper plumage is looking sick and dying. Now the bark is starting to split. Sadly i think we may have to remove it.

So many of these where I live in west Australia, for some reason they are dark grey blackish toward the bottom with lots of dead hanging fronds with big bunches of green fruit at the moment (early spring) that turn orange

Tall ladders tied to the tree.

I have heard putting soil on surface roots will make the steam rot. Is that true?

putting sold on surface roots makes them explode and the tree happier. I've done that before

Theliviopsis or Gelocladium. The trees will fall down eventually take them out now.
