Sounds like a sawtooth filtered by a lowpass filter modulated by a short envelope decay/release. The notes are done by an arpeggiator and the chords are played by hand as variations (extra inserted notes) can clearly be heard so now and then.

The noisy/squelchy pad is most likely done by routing a choir (and a rich carrier sound) though a vocoder.

He didn't - the separate tracks was released as part of the Rock Band games, since it needs them separated to be able to mute single instruments

Roger Taylor is an excellent drummer. One of the best. But since this song came out, I have always been of the belief that he never wrote this song. He had always wanted a number one hit, and if you look at his attempts at songwriting from Queen I onward, they are all in a similar class or type of musical composition. He never got his number one - until this song. Radio Ga Ga is on another level of musicality entirely. All the other songs are clearly Roger Taylor songs. They all have that vibe. But this stands out from all of them. No, this was written by a professional songwriter who remains anonymous to this day, who has a vastly more intricate knowledge of melody and harmony than RT. I think he paid someone to write this for him, and in whatever contract was signed, he would retain all rights of ownership and credit. The actual composer would be bound to "keep it quiet" as part of the deal. Roger Taylor once said that the chords of Radio Ga Ga are "incredibly complicated". I don't think he would have said that if he wrote it. That's my take on this anyway, and what more perfect place to put it out there than a KZitem comments section.

Interesting theory but remember writing a song only means he wrote the lyrics and melody line. As I recall from what I've read it was Freddie who t reworked it and arranged it and made it what it came to be. For this album they also had the help of a real good session musician Gary Mandel who was a synth wiz. He most likely also had a hand in the arrangement.
