Thank you so much for posting this. I was there!!! Josh signed my QOTSA (1st album) cover. I asked when the Kyuss reunion was and he laughed and said "never". Cool guys, amazing access to a band that would blow up 2 years later.

I remember QOTSA were getting “alternative” big around this time. I distinctly remember Dave Grohl hyping the band by saying he was sad he wasn’t invited to play drums on Rated R.
8:36 JH: "play something sweet for a sec Brendon, I gotta tune up" Brendon plays intro to In My Time of Dying JH: "Yeah... not that though" fucking lol

Agree. I still think he was their best drummer. Him and Grohl. Both brought a power to QOTSA no one else has despite them having some really killer drummers.

Y'all are both on crack. Alfredo. Then Grohl. Castillo brought the pain for many years, as well. I would say Troutman was the weakest of the bunch.

Man, I feel like I comment on this every few years.. but I keep coming back to this version of Hula and Mexicola. From "Hey Nicky, you wanna do Hula?" into that jazzy freestyle section of 'Cola. I love it and this hungover, tight space, tinny recording is old school magic. Thanks for sharing again.

That song was pretty much a staple of the live set up until about 2001. If I am correct, the last time that song was played live was at the Detour Festival in Los Angeles in 2006 (apparently Chris Goss played it with them live).

I can't help but to keep this set SO wayyy high up on my Best Of All-Time QOTSA Sets List. I got to see them later on, on the backside of this years East Coast USA Preparation For Explosion open for Ween in Orlando, at Hard Rock or House Of Blues. I have always wanted to hear that miracle of life again, someday.... Hopefully, it will be unearthed one of these days. But, this right here is a prime example of these dudes' just tirelessly fearlessly still playing shows that appear to be set up by themselves, but likely not. While at the same time, Josh is formulating Songs For The Deaf Origins in the back of his mind, slowly, in it's infancy, writing & working out pieces during soundchecks, not at all knowing or anticipating one of the most important, earth shattering records that help change everything, in the early disgustingly lengthy beginning years of the 21st Century.

He wasn’t even terrible, he just seemed like a bit of a moron. He was fine at playing guitar but would just do stupid stupid shit like not turn his gain channel on playing the leads in tension head. Prime example of that blunder, the infamous 2001 Rock am Ring performance. When he wasn’t doing moronic shit like that he was fine.
