Always think its funny when people talk about digital harshness when mentioning the cuts they put on the guitar when using a modeler, but it never gets mentioned when recording real cabs and making the same cuts :') We don't always hear with our ears, if we did we could save ourselves a lot of money in a lot of places

I just dialed this in on my own Stomp and it's absolutely spot-on. Thank you! Also, to free up a block, you could use the Amp+Cab block, then put a Hi/Low EQ block at the end to get around using the global EQ. Just an option I played with.

8:10 at -6.9 db the compressor never actually turns on, you're getting a level boost from the level function but there's no way to pump enough signal to activate the compressor. I'm using it on the Helix and it never turns on, unless I say move it to -30 db or thereabouts and really strum hard.

Amazing! i just don't get why you've put the delay and the eq before the amp and the compressor at the end, I would have done the opposite. Also you can cut 60 Hz and 8 kHz in the cab block, as there's already a high cut and low cut knob in there
@LivingroomGearDemos
4 ай бұрын
I place the delay and EQ before the amp because Josh has those in front of his amps. Compressor is meant to simulate a studio compressor which comes after the recorded signal. Yes, you can cut on the cab block as well, but in my experience you can clearly hear that a global EQ cuts more than what the cab block does.

Was putting delay before distortion a conscious decision? As usually it comes after but it sounds great
@nj1255
6 ай бұрын
It depends on what sound you're after. Delay and reverb are usually used in the FX-loop of amps today (or after an amp sim if you're ITB), but back in the day when amps didn't have FX-loops all pedals and FX were used in front of the amp. The built-in spring reverb on Fender amps for example is placed right after the pre-amp, before the power amp and speaker. It's practically the same thing as placing a reverb pedal in front of the amp since the pre-amp on Fender amps are supposed to be as close to linear as possible (i.e all distortion in Fender amps comes from the power amp). TL;DR delay and reverb after the amp=modern sound, delay and reverb in front of the amp=vintage tone
@Sharkbate211
6 ай бұрын
@@nj1255 I ask because he has the delay before the distortion pedals, not just the amp or fx loop. Thanks tho
@BeesWaxMinder
6 ай бұрын
@@nj1255 what you are describing as the fender spring reverb is actually EXACTLY like putting it in an FX loop and not involving the preamp👍
@Herfinnur
6 ай бұрын
I love having delay before drive or distortion for the textures you can get and from what I hear on albums, especially from the 90s, I'm pretty sure a lot of bands have done that
@nj1255
6 ай бұрын
@@BeesWaxMinder Yes, on any other amp that uses the pre-amp for distortion it would be like that, but not really on a Fender. Fender amps are a bit backwards in terms of having super clean pre-amps and easily distorting power amps. The only Fender power amps that don't distort easily are the very high wattage ones.
