A very worthwhile introduction to an interesting exploration of past and present. Thank you, Nick. How much we take for granted.

amazing tunnel but think on it about the underground network of tunnel the secret kind underneath them tunnels we know about there could be whole cities connected by vast tunnels underground, think where all that missing government money goes, and i saw a plan once for such thing, thanks.

Great video. I cycled through it a few years back when I was getting the ferry to Belfast which sails from the Birkenhead side. You can only cycle in it between the hours of 20:00 and 07:00 as far as I remember. One to visit for me soon.

Does the tour take you from Liverpool to Birkenhead?? Or just a Liverpool side view? I love the Western Approaches. My grandad was an electrician there during the war. He used to laugh at the signs saying 'Wartime Bunker' when he had signed the Official Secrets act and couldn't talk about the bunker he worked in, that you were walking around!!!

Dear Mister Drone or Nick fantastic 10 quid is a good You are in a position to make a list of what to do around Liverpool Besides the club scene Pub tours Beatles tours Look I would do it but I’m from Aotearoa the land of the white long cloud I use to be in Leigh left England in 74 been here 50 years we came home I’ll tell you a story one day how I came a Liverpool fan and that is though the Beatles I can’t believe how fat the average people are. Some will die early, of the silent killer Hypertension. Caught it early no drugs Cheers have a great day

For a long time female cleaners went through the tunnel at night cleaning the glass wall panels (about 7' high). Apart from the danger working on the very narrow walkways, they must have been constantly breathing in lead contaminated engine fumes. I can't imagine any lived to a great age.

At around six minutes and 50 seconds into this video. The gentleman says the tunnel is 120 feet below the river bed. This is completely untrue, from the top of the tunnel through the sandstone to the water is around 3 feet 5 inches . The total drop of the tunnel might be 120 feet, my understanding is it is around 180 feet but if you were 120 feet below the river bed, the steepness of the hill you were going down on your way down would be tremendous. The river bed is sandstone and you only need to be under the river bed.
