I teased this topic in my last video (which was all about pirates) and here we are!
I went and checked out "Queer at Sea: Tales from the 2SLGBTQ+ Community" at the British Columbia Maritime Museum and it was fantastic! The queer and trans communities have long been a part of BC’s maritime history and the exhibit conveyed their first hand accounts of love, prejudice, and hope. I really enjoyed Queer at Sea and how it was put together. It is a more text-based exhibit with more stories and oral histories than physical objects, but the level of community involvement that bonded this into a fully fledged story is compelling and touching.
A big shout out to Heather Feeney, the Collection's and Exhibit Manager at the museum for letting me interview her. She was an absolute delight!
