amazing, how its almost straight before quenching and then gets the nice curve.

it bends two times, to the edge side and then to the back side. Between is the moment the blade gets its soul 😇

@@jpjay1584 yes, edge is cooling and shrink faster becouse clay on dhe back, but as it cools in critical hardening temperature martensite crystals grow, and they are bigger than other crystals on the back and expand wich bend backwards.

That bending to the edge is visible on the other videos on youtube clearly. Almost every blade bends that way, becouse of the thinning to the edge, but in katana there is clay on the back and blade is long and not very wide and it is exadurated in purpose. Thats hardening stresses, exerything you harden bends, even a solid steel ball. The moment that steel shrinks from drop of temperature is short, and when it drop correctly new crystals grow ( like nedels). And exacly between bending from shrinking and bending from growing martensity Jesus gently blow a soul to the sword :-)

Should have quenched it in cactus juice. It's the quenchiest.

It looks like a katana. Is there clay on the spine of the blade to achieve differential hardening?
