Dark Star is quite an accomplishment. It’s almost better than it has any business being. Assault on Precinct 13 is my favorite though, the one I would use the M word with. Assault has been a movie that throughout my life I just can’t get enough of.

Never heard of it until I saw it by accident on a B/W TV in the early 80's. I was in my early 20's and loved it, great ending discussing philosophy with the nuclear bomb. I've never met anyone who rememebers it!

I think I saw this film the first time aged around 15/16 and loved it straight away. I was in my rebelious phase and had discovered Punk for myself. It was not only the anarchistic humour (which reminded me of Monty Python, using cheap effects making the scenes even more absurd), but also the subversive message of the film. I seem to be prone to these type of films, around that age I also discovered Lindsay Anderson's film If and Françoise Truffaut's 400 Blows, both dealing with teenage rebellion. Other films that were to become faves of mine were Brazil by Terry Gilliam and Catch 22 by Mike Nichols, and Pulp Fiction fits in there nicely too.

I saw it at the U.C. Theater in Berkeley in the late ‘70’s. It’s a fun movie.

my father showed me dark star at a young age, I have since gone on to watch it 3 more times (just finished that 4th watch) it is a true masterpiece of student filmmaking. The shots, the concept, the witty writing, the characters, everything about this movie is so astounding! biggest one to me is imdb claims a ~60,000 budget. there are many movies today that could stand to learn a lot from this movie.

I saw this along with 'The Golden Voyage of Sinbad' at a Saturday Matinee in 1974. I was 14, and my little brother was 9, so I had to stick to G rated movies. I was so bored with this movie, especially after watching Sinbad, that I could barely sit through it. It was so grainy on a 50 foot screen, and looked so cheap compared to other space movies I'd seen at that time, like 'Solaris' and 'Silent Running', just to name a few. Like you, I was very disappointed and felt ripped off! At least Sinbad was good, lol! Seeing it today feels totally different, and it just illustrates to me how much I've changed in a half century.

Dude can't even put effort on thumbnails or presentation. Not even uses the movie poster. Like look at this crap. I would do it better, but youtube shadowbans repeated content. It's surprising it has views at all.
