I started my application about 4 days before the deadline, trust me it was hard. I wish I could’ve had the time to research so much more and fully build up my essays. Questbridge does a great job at providing an application that can showcase a student outside of just academics. Definitely recommend giving yourself (and also the people who are writing you letters of rec as well as your counselor) at least a month to finish everything!

@@sg-strategygameplay3691 QuestBridge schools have different policies regarding international students. For the list of schools that allow you to apply as an international student (for the national match) check out this link: www.questbridge.org/high-school-students/national-college-match/additional-citizenship-requirements Just a reminder that you must have a low-income (about $65,000 or below)!

Hey, thank you so much for the advice, it's extremely helpful! I was just wondering how my chances for applying to Northwestern University through Common App ED and Questbridge ED differ? I just wanted to know because if I do apply to NU through Questbridge and I do not get matched, I would miss the regular ED deadline. Or would my chances be the same since they are both applying as ED? Or is Questbridge the same as applying ED just with increased financial benefit? You don't have to answer every question my mind is just pretty scrambled right now, thank you!
@AlexAlvaradoB
3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for taking awhile to answer this, I was looking into some information on the topic. As far as I'm aware most schools don't formally disclose if you have an advantage. Look into Northwestern and their policy. But regardless of the policy, the key advantage of the QuestBridge application is that you get an opportunity to explain your unique circumstances (coming from a low-income student). You will be asked different essay's than the common app, so it can certainly give you an advantage. I've heard students claim ED though the common app gives people advantages but there is no evidence to back that up. If you think the common app essay prompts do you justice consider going that route, otherwise the QuestBridge essay's may be better. Assuming you are admitted to the national match program, you will be able to apply to more than one school ED (which is great if there's another school besides Northwestern that you like). AND if you don't match the regular decision window is really great because you have no restrictions and are likely to get really good financial aid.

Are my sat scores when applying held to a “lower” standard because of my lower income/disadvantaged status. I have a 1470 which is pretty decent but certainly not to the standard of Ivy leagues and many top 20 schools but I don’t know if this will put me at a disadvantage if I submit it even through QuestBridge. What do you think?
@AlexAlvaradoB
3 жыл бұрын
That's very difficult to answer. Schools will take into consideration the resources and income you had available when determining how "impressive" a SAT/ACT score is (or any ap exams as well). So there is definitely a chance, but I would try my hardest to supplement that score with great essays (and great ap exams scores if possible).

Thank you for the helpful video! I'm pretty new to the college process, and I'm not sure if the CommonApp is required for applying in the Match process. If I am not ranked as a Matched Finalist and thus apply through Questbridge Regular Decision, is there enough time after the "unmatched" notification for me to fill out everything on the CommonApp? I'm worried about matters such as adding my recommendations to the CommonApp (if that's even required). Additionally, am I supposed to put all of my info on the CommonApp the same as it is on my QuestBridge app (personal statememnt, activity descriptions, etc)? Thank you!!

Hi Alex, I sent in my ranking a few days ago, btw , I only did 6 colleges, 2 days after I received an email from Questbridge asking me to rank two others schools not on my list, think one's Oberlin and the other is Colby, other kids got similar emails to rank other schools and others did not get an email, can you tell me if that a scam, an already rejection? I am at my wits as to why me and not others and what it means.
@AlexAlvaradoB

I have never heard of those types of emails. All I know is that a decision will not be made that soon, so you should not take it as a rejection. Reach out to QuestBridge if you have any doubts about its legitimacy.

It is possible to complete the application within this week; however, if you do not have letters of recommendation set up to be completed before the deadline you won't be able to get it done. I don't see why it's not worth trying (if you have the letters).

Alex, if you apply for a QuestBridge National Match to a particular school and don't get selected during the Match process, are you able to apply to that same school during the QuestBridge's Regular Decision process? If you are able to apply to a non-matched school in the QBRD period, does not getting selected by during the Match process indicate that you will probably get rejected during the Regular Decision Process. Thanks for your wonderful videos!
@AlexAlvaradoB

1. It depends on the school and its response to your application. If you are outright rejected then of course you cannot apply again. Otherwise, a school can defer your application (automatically pushing your application to be considered in the regular decision pool). 2. That is difficult to answer. If the school did not reject you outright then it means you are a competitive applicant that they think still has a shot in the regular decision pool. That being said there is no way great way of gauging your chances.

Assuming you are currently a junior or younger, you should be able to apply to the match. The only issue is that most schools will not consider international students for the match. But many more do for the regular decision window through QuestBridge. I recommend taking a look at the rules for the schools you are interested in. Everything should be available on QB's site!
