You inspired me to build a city 6 months back and now its all finally on baseplates keep up the good work and do you have any advice for making good use of a small space I would love some tips from the master Edit. You could build a underground station next to the air port that links to the floor bellow however this could keen citing holes in the table so I don't know if it's a good idea

I had a good deal of Lego stored in my basement after my kids grew up and left home. I was going to sell, or give it away, until I stumbled upon you and a couple of other builders , who really inspired me to get into the Lego City hobby. I am officially a senior citizen now, but still a kid at heart. I have been building now for a 2 1/2 years. I just love it. My city is now about a 150 Sq. Ft and expanding. I would love to show you pictures, but I don’t see any way to do that??? I have taken lots of photos and a couple of videos. Everyone I show them to are really impressed and amazed at what I have accomplished.

I like your advice on how to start your own city! I do have a few ideas of my own though, which I've implemented in my own little town (but I think they will complement your suggestions as well): We know that Lego city police stations, fire stations, and cargo and passenger trains get released and renewed every three years or so. Hospitals and gas service stations are rarer, but still a regular Lego staple. I'd say get those first, because those are the essentials in any city, and it's unlikely that you will need more of those sets for some time to come. As for the modular buildings, be careful to watch when their retirement is imminent - that's the time to get them. I agree with you on the Creator 3 in 1 houses - I stopped collecting them at the Changing Seasons set - they all have open backs now, just like City sets. But after you've collected the buildings and vehicles, that's when the real work and expense starts - with collecting road plates, baseplates and train tracks. And don't forget filling in the little details, like fencing - because before you know it, it all adds up. You have an awesome city!

I always like seeing the integration of the Lego sets, modulars and otherwise, with MOCs. I think one of the key things though, for expanding a city, is just to get bricks and plates and windows. And I mean brick bricks, not just pieces. I have a fairly substantial Lego collection, and I still struggle with making any buildings at all, without them becoming rainbow coloured brick boxes. I am, slowly, with each rebuild, getting closer to being able to make buildings in single main colours, but I just don't have enough parts to do it all one colour. And.... I really wish Lego would produce like a windows booster pack. Maybe several, for different types of windows, doors, floor plates, and so on. Oh, and stairs. Those are the things most needed, for sure.
@alexnunes

Nice. Love hearing your stories. You Jang bricks and Down under bricks were the 3 youtubers that really got me to kick start lego collecting. When I turned 10 I got set 3221 the lrgo truck from 2010, set 7638 tow truck from 2009 and set 7942 from 2007 or 2010 depending on the time that set was around for both of those fire themes. Those 3 sets were the only 3 lego sets I had for 6 months then I got set 7498 the police station summer of 2011 my first big building and those 4 sets were all I had for legos for a year and a half until I started pucking rock and using my own money to get smaller sets. Then by 2014 I got my email and youtube acount set up as well as getting a lego train for Christmas that year set 60052 cargo train. Then 2015 I got my current video camera for my videos and started showing off my legos, 2016 more collecting continued. Until 2018 another milestone for me I get my first modular tbe detectives office modular and my city gets moved from a 10 foot by 10 foot set up on tables to my current 8 by 9 foot section on the floor in my basement and adding my 2nd lego train to my layout because I had gotten the passanger train for Christmas. Future plans are to build the perisan resturant modular which is sealed right now got it a few months ago always loved it. I plan to add 1 modular a year to my city from here on out. Also put in a small amusement park nothing big but maybe the pirate coaster and the people pack for this summer. That is what my city is and my lego journey. If you could I would love to here your thoughts on my city. I will have a city update out this weekend.

Good video. The number one question I get is how long did it take to build my city. When I was young Lego was just starting to come to the US. I would ask for Lego at Christmas but never got them. I got a brick call American Building Block It does not work with Lego.(I got the same set three years in a row) I would play with those bricks for hours and hours and hours. I would build a house use all my bricks and than have to take it apart so I could build again. I did not buy a Lego set till my son was about five. We built together for a long time than It was just me building. He is now out on his own with his own house and hobbies.. So what I say is enjoy your boys while you can. They will grow up so fast. By the way I still have my more than 50 year old American Building Blocks and even some I have found in yard sales over the years.

I enjoy watching your videos here on youtube, And I already have built a city split into 2 islands, a villain's base, a snowy island next to a swamp police station and rebuilt used Lego sets from thrift stores. Right now I'm still building a Jurassic Park area with a train going around the city and a bit through the park. I'm also trying to work on a stop motion action adventure time traveling stunt devil ghost busting mystery solving crime-fighting spy series with the Lego company's old and new characters, Pepper Roni, The Alpha team, Chase McCain, etc. The Series is about the Alpha Team's rescue team a mission to fix the time-space continuum while rescuing people that are in danger, Finding treasure, Stopping the villains from taking the Multiverse and etc. That's pretty much what I got for starting a spy series for now. I have made at least a few episodes to get started. I like your videos and you and jangbricks inspired and got me curious to build a Lego city of my own. Good job and keep up the good work on your city and channel.

I am trying to setup a MOC station. Thanks for the continued work and video! It seems like you would have more parts. Do you keep them elsewhere or is what you showed on the table and under your compliment of MOC parts? Do you separate by individual part number? Or do you group like parts irregardless of color? For example, all 2x4 plate in one bin, all 1x1 brick in another bin?

@alexnunes
5 жыл бұрын
Small areas can be a lot of fun because you can really focus on the detail. It should follow just one category. If you choose residential, focus on the house details and activities people are involved in. If it is a city try to make it look very true to a typical city, clean city streets, but a dangerous dark ally full of garbage cans. Things like that.

I think if you can put dividers in your bins to help organize then you should do it. It will help finding pieces a lot easier. As for my tables, I build them myself. I use plywood and 2X4s. I then cover them in felt. Good luck with your city!
