I drive the Prius C as my work car. From what I understand, when you move the shifter to B, you are switching to a regen brake mode. When you shift to B, you get an instant drag. I actually shift to B and use it as an accessory brake when I need to brake quickly (in conjunction with the regular brake). I also use B to slow down when I'm behind cars on the freeway where the speed is not consistent (often during high traffic situations). I use B so often that I noticed that I didn't have to replace brake pads as often as other cars. In fact, I don't think I've ever replaced the brake pads yet on this 2015 model.

About Start-Stop...My 2024 Mazda Cx-5 has it but it rarely engages. Brake pressure is the deciding factor. If I brake normally it doesn't engage. If I brake hard it does...even when I'm stopped I can press harder on the pedal and it will engage. Also, if engaged, it starts as soon as I start letting up on the pedal. Very seamless! Also has disengage switch if you don't want it at all.

2019 here, same model, 3.5 gas, and I concur - fabulous vehicle, and while there are always nits that can be picked, I don't agree on the cheap interior. To me, that "cheap" description better fit the then-new gen RAV4 I A-B'd the "old" HL with, night and day. My HL is the Limited trim so that may help that impression..even so, "trim to trim" it bested the new/otherwise higher tech RAV in making you feel like you got your money's worth. Speaking of tech, my nit would be the dated infotainment and stingyness on features standard on even lesser trims with other makes--especially in recent years. Toyota has never been good about updating inbetween major refreshes, and sometimes not even at those points. And they won't retrofit or even sell options à la carte either at the time of sale or after the fact. Otherwise, everyone who drives/rides in it praises. Also great point on the length... in the automotive world every inch is a big deal, for good and bad, and the Highlander is dimensionally on the lower end of its class - for me to the good, we only occasionally use the third row and like that it's still a fairly handy size and not a big boat.

Auto Stop & Start seems like a great gas saving idea. So good that I actually used to turn my car off manually when I knew a light would be red for more than 30 seconds. Now my 2022 Subaru ASS has it & it actually monitors & displays how long the car has been in ASS mode (i.e. motor shut off when stopped). According to the monitor, the gas saved is miniscule! I was shocked. Also the ASS Boxer engine is very rough, literally shakes the car briefly on most startups. I have driven a number of other cars & on many the ASS is almost imperceptible. Regarding Korean trannies: The 6 spd with torque converter that comes with their hybrids is very smooth, efficient, and apparently pretty trouble free (I've owned two cars with it.). The entire Korean hybrid system seems quite well designed & engineered, perhaps not Toyota quality, but not far behind. Their 8 spd DCT seems to have reliablity issues and I would be somewhat wary of getting a car with that tranny - do so with fingers crossed that it doesn't go bad and that the 10 yr warranty is not a hassle.

Hybrid CVT's tend to be a "eCVT "which is NOTHING like the design of the regular, crappy belt/chain design CVT's in 100% ICE vehicles. Only thing they have in common is the CVT in their name & the eCVT is the only one worth buying (IMO). DCT tend to be as unreliable & problematic as a belt/chain design CVT - AVOID. Start/Stop in 100% ICE vehicles is garbage (IMO) & should be avoided, but the start/stop in most hybrids works differently & tends to be reliable/problem-free.

Doesn't matter that you comment Scotty doesn't know what he's talking about re: start/stop tech - Scotty is a whirling dervish for sure. But, lots of other mechanics who have KZitem channels (Car Care Nut) for one - point out that this tech to improve gas mileage in city driving is marginal at best, and note that this start/stop tech does cause more wear on the starter or whatever tech (battery or electric drive) starts the gas engine. Beyond the annoyance of it, it serves no good purpose and luckily it's usually able to be switched off, as you state. My own opinion is that it's a common-sense thing to say that the less you activate and deactivate engines or any kind of electronic device, the better - it does, in my view, shorten it's life-span.

Sorry Zack, but I happen to believe that Mr. Scotty Kilmer is probably correct. Although Start/Stop system are NOT doing ‘Cold Starts’ (as power plant is warm), … I believe that it is doing excessive wear and tear on your Starter/Flywheel/even Battery. Starters can cost over $1,000 before taxes on some vehicles (Lexus LS460 4hr job!). If we were installing Heavy Duty Starters… like what ‘Police Packs’ or Diesels might have … then… maybe. But I am hardly gonna risk my money on some sort of Ford Explorer or Hyundai/KIA product that can’t screw together a proper transmission (or CVT) with building a Starter that in engaging and disengaging… 100 times a day in City driving. I’d sooner spend the money on fuel. Lest I even mention the addition of Air Conditioning Systems going on and off. I think Mr. Kilmer is right on ‘this one’. Thanks for the video.

The idle stopper feature on Hondas is actually an issue In fact they have had a massive lawsuit in the US. Not sure why but their system seems to be more prone to go bad and causing other engine issues along the way.Other manufacturers seem to be doing alright(it's all on the interwebz). As far as Scotty, when he started he was actually doing well, good advice, nice presentation (mind you a bit crude) I assume he paid someone to do all his editing and channel management and things went downhill from there. The quality of his videos got better but it's all click baity titles that have nothing to do with what he's saying in the video, lots of nonsense blah blah etc. I used to watch him. Not anymore....

Is Honda/ Acura just ripping people off? Isn’t the 2.0T from the older accord with 10A that you can’t get on any Hondas anymore?

I’ll trust a mechanic on car advice before someone who drives them around for fun and first impressions. Auto start stop sucks! My mom’s RAV4 has it and it violently starts up sometimes when it’s engaged and they have to shut it off every time they get in it. When I drove it I thought something was majorly wrong with it so I pulled over and then realized that it was the start stop system. We’ve had many Toyotas in the family now, theirs is the first to have issues.

Mid size off road question person.... Do NOT get the Tacoma! Ranger or Colorado and our channel takes them off road. The Pro 4X is good for a regular truck but not for Off road at all

Sart and stop option can cause an accedent. I was ready for left turn (my car has auto start and stop) usually I drive another car with no auto start and stop. So when I was at left turn and listening to the music I did not notice my car stopped. Not realizing that I pressed gas the front car was far but auto start took time to kick in and delayed I almost escaped the accident. I agree with Scotty on that as I experienced myself. This is the worst option. By the way Scotty has 6.3 million subscribers so looks like people like to listen to him. No one perfect though...

The better question is why don't you answer questions here on KZitem? Some of us don't have or want an Instagram account, so we'll never get our questions asked or answered.

Lmao.. all wheel drive. I have a 2017 golf FWD… Ontario gets a lot of snow? Try Nova Scotia haha. You don’t need all wheel drive. You just need to learn how to drive.

At least the snow in Nova Scotia usually melts on and off during the winter. That never happens where I am in northern Ontario. But you can keep your nor easter storms. 😱😖🎅

I have had RWD, FWD, AWD. There is no question that AWD has better stability, grip, traction control than anything else. If you want the safest drive for all drivers in the family go with AWD.

Oh man so glad to hear someone is finally calling Scotty Kilmer a real idiot. WOW man you’re my hero. Scotty annoys me so much. How does that guy even have a channel. He talks so much nonsense it’s unbelievable. Scotty is like that character in Seinfeld where George lets Pop look under the hood.

Same people that told you Auto start-stop is not a problem are the same people that told you cylinder deactivation was good so who you going to believe a couple of pencil pushing desk jockeys or somebody that actually knows how to turn a wrench on a car
