I own an Acura and i can tell you that they are not luxury vehicles, they're premium like the current Mazda's. Look at the Integra, its basically a civic. At least before they had the 8 DCT and the 2.4 NA that was different from the regular civic, but now its the same powertrain. The TLX has so many compromises too. These are supposed to be the more "affordable" options that bring in customers to the brand so they can eventually graduate to a more expensive RDX or an MDX respectively.
@Ela-cw7fi

While there are many opinions about what can be considered a luxury, Acura is known as a luxury brand, thanks to its high-end vehicles and top-quality features. Acura ranks high in reliability, with notable safety and fuel efficiency ratings and low average repair costs for a luxury brand. Lexus took home the title at number one, INFINITI came in at number four, and Acura earned the number eight spot. Conversely, at the bottom of the report, it was Mercedes-Benz at 23, Genesis at 25, and Lincoln pulling up the rear as the 28th ranked brand.

Cars burning oil like they were 1980 Hyundai's. Suspension bushings wearing out all the time costing $1,000 each time. And then..... in 2016 came that 1.5 motor. It was crap when it was released due to oil dilution, and it should have been stopped production or completely redesigned internally . Instead they remapped the Engine control computer ? and said that fixed it. Good God. China had the answer . They outlawed Honda from selling this junk in any part of China that has a cold climate . @@andreaspencer9813I was referring to the readers. But if you said a Volvo is predicted by J D Power to have 1.1 more reliability issues than a Lexus (which is an accurate analysis of the survey) it sounds completely different than “at the bottom.” This appears to be a slanting of the reliability scores for dramatic effect. I’m no fan of the Chinese either (at least my Volvo was built in South Carolina), but facts are facts. Can we agree on the accuracy of this statement: “JD Power predicts a Volvo, on average. will have about one more reliability issue than a Lexus.”

There are so many variables in thes JD Powers surveys. Like the severity of these issues; There is a difference between a minor glitch and being stranded on the side of the road. Also - Buyers of luxury brands probably demand more and will take it in for every little thing - while buyers of other brands might just live with it. And looking at the car company as a whole doesn't show the full picture - maybe one vehicle in their lineup has great reliablility and others that are bringing the overall score down.

A PHEV would be the best option for mountainous terrain (assuming of course you have a place to plug it in). Much of the energy expended climbing a grade can be regenerated on the downside. Why not an EV? The more rural an area, the less likely a charging station will be found. With a PHEV, charging the battery is not a critical issue.

The current UK government put back the date for all cars to go EV. From 2030 to 2035. There's a general election on the 4th of July. There's something else on that date, and I can't think what it is. Anyway, the opposition party has stated they will reintroduce the 2030 date if they succeed.

Respectfully, I must disagree. My friend's MDX is beautiful. It is kind of like saying that a Lexus is no different than a Toyota. Once you sit in a Lexus and drive it, trust me, you will feel the difference.

@@Snoopymk37, completely agree with you! I loved my MDX, not impressed with any Honda. Like Andrea mentioned, I returned my MDX at lease end because dont want to pay premium gas. Now looking at hybrid Crown Signia. Im not a brand snob but if it feels like a base model Lexus, im gonna go with the budget badge.

I completely agree with you, the problem is that Honda’s feel like cars from the 90s (just like Toyotas) that an Acura or Lexus feels like an upgrade when in reality they’re the minimum for an acceptable car. Drive a BMW if you want to know how a modern car should feel!

@@H2SO4H20 We have owned 3 Hondas which we kept long term, nothing but routine maintenance and the previous two held their value well when we sold them. A friend of mine has owned nothing but Hondas since 1990 and his kids now own Hondas. They are happy. My daughter and son in law own a Honda which is probably accumulating a lot of miles with all the traveling they do and I know they are happy. I guess all brands can have problems but knock on wood none of the aforementioned have had problems with Honda.

@@charlesdudek7713 All I can tell you is that our experiences with our four Honda vehicles mirror the J.D. Power 2024 Most Reliable Car Brands ratings based on problems per 100 vehicles. Lexus, a subsidiary of Toyota, is rated #1. Vehicles sold under the Toyota brand are at #2. Honda is far back at #19 followed by its Acura division at #20. Hondas are reliable vehicles based on high marks in resale value, cost of ownership, safety and fuel-efficiency ratings, and average repair costs. Many Hondas last well into the several hundred thousand-mile territory when well taken care of and often pass from generation to generation.
