You two are great. I peek behind the relationship history curtain was a real treat. Driving in Montreal in the ‘70’s, winter tires were a necessity. Westmount and the Laurentian’s plus spotty snow removal meant winters or you were stuck. I have a 2010 Mini and run all-seasons. When it snows it stays in the garage. When it’s dry, no problem. Thanks again for the great videos.

I have the CrossClimate2's on my RX350, and love them. Great in summer and winter - rain or snow (they do have a snowflake on the sidewall). If you live in a moderate climate where it doesn't get brutally cold and snowy, they'll do the trick.

I replaced the 235/55-18 Michelin Primacy all-season tires with the same size Michelin CrossClimate 2 for three-season use on our 2014 Toyota Sienna FWD and continued to use Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 235/60-17 during winter. I found that the CrossClimate 2 weren't nearly as secure as the Blizzak on packed snow during a spring snowfall and was surprised that the CrossClimate 2 could earn the mountain/snowflake logo on the sidewall. And then I found that directional stability of the CrossClimate 2 was very noticeably worse on dry pavement than both the Michelin all-season and Bridgestone Blizzak. When I measured the tread width of the CrossClimate 2, I was surprised that it was substantially narrower than the tread on the Blizzak which may have been at least some of the reason for the poorer directional stability. Also, the CrossClimate 2 is not a long wearing tire although it doesn't wear as fast as the Blizzak. So ... my take is that the CrossClimate 2 requires more conservative driving all year round but at least they satisfy the requirement for winter tires in jurisdictions where they are required.
@willoverkill8461
Жыл бұрын
I have not tried the Cross Climate 2s yet, but I have Bridgestone Weatherpeak on my wife's van and Toyo Celcius on my sedan, both are good, I like the Celcius a little more overall. The best though that we've had are the Nokian WRG4s, they ride a little harder but they were previously on the van and I went up a snowy incline the same as a full winter tire without issue. The all weathers I wouldn't recommend are the Firestone Weathergrip or Kuhmo HT51, the former was noisy like a full winter tire and the latter had poor snow grip.

I have yet to find an acceptable all weather that can manage actual winter driving, but around here winter is long and I could be driving on snow packed roads for a few weeks at times. For winter tires I’ve tried a few but keep coming back to Blizzak dmv2. They drive like a tank on light or deep snow and ice, but they aren’t a handling tire and get especially mushy if the temps get above 40F. I did love Michelin x-ice 2 or 3 or something I had on my ‘13 Outback. They were quite good but they spun a lot lot more on deep snow and slush than those blizzaks, likely due to tread depth and design. But the X-ice drove exceptionally well on dry roads with great mpg.
@mj8495

All weather tires are still a compromise. I agree with your comparison of Blizzak and X-ice. I run X-ice or Pirelli Scorpion winter tires because of their bias for mainly cold or slippery condition versus deep snow

Winter tyres make a world of difference. I can not stress this enough. Its not just about traction. It’s about sub-20 C temperatures (where all seasons do not have any flex, its about braking and mostly for grip… even on bitter cold asphalt/concrete motorways, despite being plowed (free of snow). You have FOUR things holding you onto the road… this is not where you wanna go cheap. I always suggest investing on a mid-to-top tier Winter tyre. You won’t regret NOT getting in an accident. Thanks for the video.

This Michigander is a big fan of winter tires, especially for stopping and handling. They are not as expensive as they seem because they extend the life of your all seasons. I also recommend cheap, basic steel wheels. They take a beating and and are easy to repair after hitting a mega pot hole. Keep in mind that avoiding one accident pays for winter tires.

All weather tires are a compromise just like all season. Now they are a better compromise no question, but if you want maximum confidence when driving in winter conditions, nothing beats a dedicated set of winter tires. Look at it this way; the extra cost will probably amount to your collision deductible if your deductible is $1000. Would you rather spend that money and stand a better chance of avoiding a collision and dealing with an insurance claim and all the hassle that entails in getting a rental, dealing with an adjuster, collision shop, waiting for your car, etc because of the extra grip of a dedicated winter tire? I know I would!

I have a great relationship with our dealer , they have offered 4K of positive equity if we agree not buy out the car. Which means we could order a new Onyx Crosstrek for January delivery and basically pay the same monthly amount for another three years as we did on her current car. It only has a little over 40k on it and no accidents..alway serviced every 8K Should we take the deal. The buyout is 20k plus tax. I thought of flipping is ?? Thanks in advance Cheers Gobear
