Seems to be a pattern. New people to explore might be Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. Jake Tapper, Brendan Fraser. I'm sure you must have asked Oprah but, if not, she and Stedman would be fantastic! What a fun job you have. Thanks for your hard work making it all happen.

@@AncestryUS hello I’ve been watching for a few years now and glad that the show is back. I started my own genealogy because of the show. I’m wondering if you also help non celebrities? While I’m not a celeb(yet) I do have a fascinating family history that I’ve been able to find so far. I’m related to the Ruffins I.E Col Samuel Ruffin and his son Edmund Ruffin( credited as 1st to shoot to start civil war). I have a former slave last name Stevenson who went on to buy land in La Vernia Texas from their former enslavers and built a colored school( no longer exist) and a church that is still standing. I’m also researching the William Rufus King family, as the information I’ve found leads me to believe I descend from one of their enslaved peoples from a alabama plantation. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me get pass the 1860 road block that we often get to.

I had read Zora Neale Hurston's book, Barracoon, before I saw this episode, and was so excited when I realized what Dr. Gates was about to tell him. The entire story leaves me conflicted; the brothers who illegally brought African people to the U.S. on a bet, hid their presence, and even scuttled the ship (Clotilde) to hide their crime were despicable, but the people themselves were amazing. The bargained for their freedom and founded Africatown. Photos of ancestors are such a treasure. I ended up with my grandmother's collection. My cousins and I love searching for resemblances among us, like who is tall like our Great-grandfather, and who is short like his wife. I hope Questlove and his sister can find out more about their family.

Isn't this the ship that they found the remains of, in an inlet in either one 9f the Carolina's or Georgia. When searching the possible paths of the first colonists, that got left for longer than expected, awaiting the return of supplies and the Grandfather if the 1st European child born in the USA. @@Resiana27 Once Henry LG put out that infor Europeans have been blaming us for slavery, as if they did not come to Africa's coast. The amount of Africans captured and sold to Europeans was a low # compared to the amount captured. Also, the slavery practiced in West Africa was equivalent to Indentured Servitude in US. After working for 7,10, 15 years(various times but not life) the enslaved could marry into the family they worked for or return to their tribe. It was NOT chattel slavery like in US colonies. Africans did not brand, mutilate one another. HLG needs to tell the story FULLY. Laslty, Italy and Portugal needs to be held accountable for their role in trans atlantic slave trade. Saudia Arabia, Oman, ad the rest of the gulf nations need to be boycotted and sanctioned for their continued slavery in today 2023 !
