Thank you for this video. My husband have a 2004 Chevy Colorado and we are looking for an idea for a bed platform and this is the one we chose. Very simple to make. I love the rug idea. I save the video and I will send you pictures when we make ours. We are planning to use this with a truck tent camper.

Hi there, I saw your vid. I've been truck camping since the mid 80's. Here's what I've learned & I'll pass them on to you. 1) Get stuff you need at a camping store for backpacking. It's small, compact, & light weight. 2)Get splash guards for your truck. It'll help keep you & your rig clean. They work. I know. 3) When parking for the night, park headlong into the wind. That way if a storm comes you won't have to worry about a side wind ripping off your camper shell. Plus, if anything comes bouncing towards the truck, since you have a slimmer profile, it might miss you. If it does hit, the front of the truck is reinforced. 4) Use bug spray on the interior doors & windows/ screens openings to help keep bugs out. Use wasp & hornet spray around & on your tires to help keep critters out. Basically, all points of contact on the ground. 5) An inch is a lot of room. Learn how to stack & get used to sand & dirt. Use floor mats to put your shoes on too 6)Air out your sleeping area every morning or often. In an enclosed space the air gets stale & it will smell like feet & assholes. I know this from being in an 80 man berthing when I was in THE NAVY! 7)Use a small fan to circulate the air in your sleeping area. This will help prevent hot & cold spots from forming & help prevent condensation & mold & mildew from forming. I hope this helps. Great vid, thanks for sharing. Drive safe. 🤠

one of the best easy build ideas ive seen, pretty clever, probably going to do something similar, does the particle bored feel pretty sturdy? like could two people and a dog use it? or would more support underneath be a good idea?
@BraxenMcConnell

I think you’d be fine as is, I have slept two people in it before, just not a dog. But I’ve also bounced around a bit and it’s always held up.

Thanks for the inspiration, man. Building out my bed this weekend and likely will be referring to this video once or twice during the process. I'll keep you updated on the finished product. Also, looks like you have a 3rd-gen Toyota as well? I'm curious to know what you used to secure your topper to the bed rails. Right now, I'm using some janky old clamps, but your setup looks much safer/supportive. Thanks again!
@superhanley0000

He’s got a 2nd gen but the bolt clamps you can pickup from somewhere like campways truck accessories they go through holes on the topper and clamp into the bed rails

@@BraxenMcConnell can't you lower the wood but cutting it by maybe half an inch?
@BraxenMcConnell
5 жыл бұрын
I could lower the middle by about a half inch to and inch and probably be fine, but I can’t lower it much more than that because I’m using the wheel wells and ledges on the side as supports for the top platform

like the raised floor but I did have a truck but I let it go because of the noise in the cab motor just got to me and with ringing in my ear already made it worse. and the raised floor will cause you very little room sleeping room meaning your head is now closer like sleeping in a grave I rather have a higher roof so I don't hit my head. try to have storage on the side and your bed in the little, this work better for me, what you think. ?

Did you use anything else to support the panels towards the front of the truck? I feel like the plywood wood flop over if there was supporting it.
@BraxenMcConnell
5 жыл бұрын
The wheel wells support it really well on the sides, and then I cut the wood to lay in the middle of the center beam so that supports it from the middle. The only time it shifts is if I’m driving somewhere and the center beam moves, but all I have to do is re-center it and it’s good to go again. Never had it shift while I’m sleeping on it tho.

Literally just finished my platform using this as my base. What I did for the front was add two more 2x10 sections at the very front with hinges for easy tear downto eliminate side to size movement. I lost about 2” bed space up at the front but it works perfect and it doesn’t move. I can measure the piece if you need it.

Hey Bryce! I honestly haven’t really done anything, they are pretty water tight as is. I know mine has a strip of foam along the bottom where the shell sits on the sides of the bed, but that’s it. I think they all come with that weather stripping tho.

How much did you actually show us the truck bed vs your face in this video. If you can completely avoid your face and show us the rig, then I would say this video is useful. All I see is your face through out the video which is not useful.
