Just a simple tip. After you turn it, You can sew a small X in the middle , making sure to catch each fabric, it keeps the fabric in place. Use tends to shift them otherwise, and keeps it from catching stuff inside.

Scrap potholders took me MUCH more TIME. With a healed once, broken wrist, so now I opt for larger fabric, even if recycled. This is attractive, quick, giftable, and the turning so fast is the sewists treat. ***Thanks!***

This is it, Laura. Just what I want to made for my friends for Christmas. I just bought a variety of fabrics on sale with the intention of making hot pads for everyone this year. With autumn just around the corner here in Kansas I'm starting to think about baking again, and well - - I need new hot pads. I had saved this video in my You Tube library and am glad I did. Your instructions are the best out there and the photography is excellent. I just made the first one trying a double layer of Insul-Brite. It's a bit tricky sewing through that many layers but affords more heat resistance at the oven. Thanks again for an easy but very useful and quick project!

Love the pattern. Just be careful using it when taking hot baking pans out of the oven; do not hold onto the pan for longer than normal time, (i.e. grab it, put it on stove or counter immediately) it will get too hot to handle, matter of fact, I don't use them for that anymore. Either that or use double the insul bright. Or maybe there is a better insulator made since 2015. I have insul-brite leftover since early 2017. Just be careful because this is a beautiful project. Just love Laura's projects.

If, for the inside of a potholder, I want to use use two pieces of thermal batting-- the kind where only one side is shiny-- should I sandwich them so the shiny sides end up on the inside, or so that the shiny sides are on the outside, remaining next to the outer cotton fabrics (the second layer in)?

Thank you for your time. 🙏 I made some square ones few years ago. But I don't know how I thought that it could be ok using circles. Well, I just did it today, I made two of them. It took me extra effort because I used the wrong fabric! I used the legs from a pair of thick denim jeans 🫣 for inside and outside of the pot holder, plus too many layers to sew. 🧵 It was a way to learn 🤷. Thanks again. 🙏

I made hot pads like this one in a class at Joann's, but I had forgotten how to do them so I really appreciate this video. I do have a question though. We used Insul Bright as the batting and it has a foil like appearance on one side, not in the middle. Based on one that I completed, it looks like the foil side goes on the fabric side of the hot pad that will be on the counter. Does that sound right?
