MSI has now the latest bios under beta, I have the MPG Z790 Edge TI Max Wifi and it is working fine with the 7E25v161(Beta version). It sets the PL1 and PL2 within the range. I have found the XTU now to work perfectly well, no blue screens any longer. CEP is set to automatic, I did set that to enable. The rest is stock, I quite like my system to show green on the CPU (aRGB)

5800X3D user here (brilliant CPU by the way) and admit I have no experience with the latest 13th/14th gen CPU's from intel but I've been building PC's since 1996 and I strongly agree with the other comments that out of the box/default settings shouldn't be in any form of overclocked/high performance state. Regular PC users/gamers should not have to re-flash and/or enter the BIOS to modify default settings just to get their PC's to run reliably. Intel needs to refocus on delivering dependable high-performing, power efficient and cool-running CPU's and forget about beating the competition at all costs. Leave the overclocking to the die-hard overclockers.

It's the motherboard manufacturers doing the overclocking. It happens on AMD boards too

Power and / or current throttling is not a motherboard issue. It is Intels issue. It means that your CPU need more power in order to function properly. Intels 13 / 14 th generation are not capable to function as stated speed. That’s all about. Not all of them at least. By power throttling Intels put all the chipsets at the same level instead of picking the best for 13900-14900 series that are capable to get to the speeds as advertised. Simply put you buy a cipset to function at 5.5 ghz and you run it at 5.2 ghz. 😅

Quickest fix is to replace the CPU for i7 or AMD, some reviewer already claim that CPUs are degrading .... big fail for Intel .. these are very expensive CPUs and they are a failure.

@@TheProvokedPrawn It is not the same, very few AMD cpus melted because of over-voltage in case of overclocking, this was fixed with bios and forgotten right away and didn’t affect the out of the box performance of the cpus.

Just an FYI, any time you see someone recommend to enable CEP (like JayzTwoCents) and you also undervolt your CPU: Dont do it. CEP murders CPU performance if the voltage is below the motherboards expectation.

@@Waldherz Only odd things i've seen is voltages seems to be higher and 2 the of Binned Cores hit 100c on BF2042. Which considering actual gameplay is in the high 60's to 70 (summer don't help). I cannot explain this kind of spike, it's very brief like less than a second. I used to get spikes to 84c or so which BF2042 is known for doing..... But 100c on the 6Ghz cores, even though i checked and they aren't hitting 6Ghz in BF. I ended up sync all cores to 57x, which helps but still saw a 91c pop up

@@MhillPlays Same here. Im considering to revert a lot of the changes I did recently to my own profile I used to run: Sure, Id lose a little bit of performance (really not anything youd notice in games) but my CPU was at least 10°C cooler. I do suspect that some of the TVB srttings I now enabled have to play a role here as well.

I have a gigabyte z790 aourus elite AX on one of my 14900k systems. I couldn’t find any beta or newer bios other than Dec 25th 2023 “FH”. What I did to get stable for gaming was to lock the P cores and Ecores and disable the ‘thermal performance’, 55 for E cores and 57 for p cores. But keep in mind that all CPUS are not the same so it may require a small variation in multipliers. I’ve been messing with this the last few days and am determined to figure out how to get peak performance WITH stability. I’ll update if I find a better configuration

So, people paid premium to get a fast cpu. Flashing now the new bios for the watts and amps to be much lower and not having stability issues. Intel gained hips from marketing and initial reviews and now these cpus to be more or less on the same performance with much cheaper skus. Nice work Intel, you really now how to screw your customers. It's not MB manufacturers' fault, it's Intel's. Intel tests and aprooves the MB before they hit the market and for them to have the Intel Inside logo. It worked for them to "show" good performance and it came to bite them in the ass.
