You sir are a hero! It dropped to -15F last night and the mr. heater in our barn wasn't working. Our chicken's water was frozen and the well actually froze too so we had no way to get them water. I came back inside thinking we'd have some casualties over night and luckily found your video, watched the whole thing and hoped this was the issue. I went back out to the barn (it's 1am by this time) and I popped open the heater and saw the 3 blinks on the LED. Pulled off tube, cleaned out the connector with a small drill bit, put it back on and it worked! Our chickens thank you very much for literally saving them. Thank you!

Here we are almost 4 years later, and your video saved me a ton of grief. 6 degrees here in Iowa and my shop full of inventory for coatings, paints, and mastics was 28 degrees when I walked in this morning (thermostat always set at 50 to keep products usable). Found your video, and after digging in, you might as well have been using my heater for your video - everything was identical. Followed your steps, and wallah, up and running and back on its way to 50 degrees. You saved me the cost of a hvac visit, as well as $20k in inventory from going bad. Thank you sir!

I have the 80,000 BTU version of the Big Maxx in my garage installed December 2017 and have experienced the same problem with my heater (3 flashing green LED). I was on the phone with customer service in Jan 2018, I cleaned out the blower motor with a 5/64th drill bit as advertised, which my unit did not have any debris clogging it. The unit started and ran for a few days and it happened again, 3 flashing green LED. I had the customer service folks send me a new pressure switch and I replaced it. The unit worked for 2 days and it is no longer firing up. I'll call customer service tomorrow and attempt to find another solution. Thank you for posting this video, it makes perfect sense.

I know this is an old video, but I just installed my heater, plumbed it, and everything seems to operating okay, ......except that it only burns for about one second and then goes off and then a few minutes later, it reignites and burns another second. In the meantime, the fan runs continuously. I'm getting a steady led blinking, slow for no gas demand and faster for demand for gas, so no idiot lights. Do you have an idea what might cause that? It effectively renders the heater useless right now because the fire doesn't stay on long enough to heat anything. Also, the flames don't seem to be quite as strong as yours were. Close but not quite. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

I ran across your video in a desperate attempt to fix my Bigg Max 80. Purchased in Dec. of 2020. The problem I was having was that the unit would kick on and run normally for a bit, but then the flames would shut off for a minute and then re-ignite. The fan would never stop running and there were never any error codes. This short cycling would happen for as long as the t-stat called for heat. This problem happened from the initial start up. It obviously took much longer to heat the shop than it should. Again there were never any error codes. This unit was converted to propane and I had a HVAC tech out to check my install over, and adjust gas pressure at the gas valve. I did as you suggested, and looked for blockages, and tested the switch with light suction. All seemed fine. No evidence of condensation in the tube. No changes in what the unit was doing. After a frustrating search, I found an internet forum, and someone having the same problem on the same model. He contacted the techs at Mr Heater and they suggested he turn the pressure switch over and it worked for him. I tried the same and viola! It worked! I have no idea why but I am not complaining. No bypass, just unscrew the switch from the bulkhead, turn it over and re-install. I had to clip a couple zip ties to get enough slack in the wires. In defense of Mr Heater, I worked with them since I installed this and they were always helpful. They sent me a new gas valve and computer board at no charge to replace. Neither of those things made any difference.

thank you, great tip. That was my problem but blocked a little different regarding the tube. First, it did not help that the tube was squeezed tight against the wires with a nylon tie, so I took off that tie. I could not pull the end off the blower but I could see thru the tube there as some condensation in there. The tube came off easily from the sensor, and I blew into that end to clear it up. That worked. Thank you.

Why not eliminate the pressure switch by splicing the two wires together. Tired of this problem. I'm 1200 miles away from my cabin. Don't have the luxury of going out to the garage to repair an obvious design flaw. Cost me $900 last year in plumbing repairs.

That seems potentially unsafe?? What I plan on doing is running a piece of wire or drill bit into that hole at the start of the heating season to help reduce my chances of having it stop working at the worst time. A preventative step, I suggest you do that also. Maybe even do it again midway through the heating season. I’m not aware of a permanent fix.

@@InternetDude unsafe in what way? If there is no obstructions and never has been, seems to me time would be better spent checking the exhaust pipe every season. It just heats the cabin while we are away. So what is unsafe?

@@lumberjack1713 I did that with my high limit switch a while back until I replaced it and am tempted to do it with the pressure switch now too. The switch is new. However someone in the comment section said they found success by flipping the pressure switch upside down as suggested by a Mr Heater tech. I'm going to give that a try and see what happens first.

Amazing video, same problem here on our 64,000 BTU model. Gunk in the hose and used a finishing nail to poke out the gunk in the nozzle. Fired right back up again. 10/10

Thank you good sir. It worked like a champ. I used a 2mm hex wrench to clean out the port. As Wil E Coyote would say, Super Genius. That’s what you are. I’m not handy at all and I could figure it out.

Thanks I will look into that, I still need to keep cleaning out that port today. Did you find information on their website or did you have to phone them?

My heater does this every couple months, cleaned it out with torch tip cleaner and problem solved , seems like it makes some condensation as it cools down

I now recommend people do this proactively at the start of the heating season and perhaps even another time if needed.

Must say Big Max heater is a excellent company, and cares about it's customers. My three flash code became quite involved. Replaced 3 pressure switches, motherboard, gas valve, and a transformer. They then sent new gaskets for the exhaust manifold. I must say they did all these parts on warranty. Did all the other things also like checking pressure switch tubing and hole clearance. To make a long story short when replacing the exhaust manifold gaskets had manifold upside down, and could see a wasp nest about the size of two golf balls at the bottom of it. Removed wasp nest, replaced gaskets and it is cycling normally.
