I bought Pat's Easy Change with my Deere 5115M because it makes sense for the wide array of attachments that I own. I prefer flexibility. Plus I use a subframe 595 backhoe (OFTEN), so the 3 point comes off often, but the Pat's stays on the 3 point which is yet ANOTHER benefit of Pat's vs quick hitch. Once you install the Pats: you can just leave it on the lower arms, even when removing the lower arms from the tractor. Repeat: If you are taking the 3 point off frequently, the Pat's will be a lot less work. Install once and then it is just installing or de-installing the 3 point and inspecting the Pats.

Thank you for another excellent video. Another disadvantage of the Quick Hitch (Kubota) is that, at least with my tractor (Kubota L2501), the frame of the QH blocks my view of the lower clamps from the seat. So I have to guess, based on the top hook, where they are when backing up to an implement. This results in my often having to get off the tractor a half dozen (or more) times to look. Very frustrating. I purchased the Pat's system a few days ago and plan to install it today.

Thanks for the kind words, Steve! You bring up a point no one else has mentioned about not being able to see the bottom hooks on a QH. The fact that so many QH owners end up having to get off the tractor anyway for one reason or another is why I felt the Pat’s system made the best since for me. Thanks for watching!

That is the best video I've seen about the pros and cons of each system. As you may know, my 1962 Case came with the Eagle hitch system, which is basically the Pat's system. Only one detail, the width of the arms is fixed. Then I made a quick hitch and modified my implements to fit. So in my case, the QH is a better option. Nice video Martin! Thanks!

Nice video, good explanation of the Pro's and Con's, etc. I don't recall the brands, but some online search will put you on the right track. I've seen them at least from Italian and German brands/stores. Probably there's more. Replace the conventional 3 point hitch arms, with arms with connectors similar to the pat's system. In fact I do believe it's even older than the Pat's. It's already integrated, no changes in length and such. Take one, put the other, done. No more U bolts adjustments, lengths, accessories, etc. Don't want to replace the arms, no worries. Just get the connector heads and weld them to your own 3 point arms. More work, but also cheaper. ;-) BTW they have for all categories. Cheers

I have my Pat's installed and man do I love it. Plus to top it off I scored a used landscape rake and guess what different width at my 3 point hitch than that of my box blade, no problem for Pat's. I know a quick hitch could not of done that. So what I saved on a used rake more than paid for my Pat's Easy change. Plus I can swap my implements fast and easy too. Thanks for the great videos Martin, I have a New Holland but I still watch all your specific kubota videos as well still allot of good stuff in them. One thing I did do when I installed my Pat's is I used lock nuts to prevent loosening, cost less than $5 and to me well worth it. Plus I bought a bigger size nut so I could still use a socket to tighten them up on the jam bolts.

Pat's 210%. I've been using my pats for about 2 years it makes all the difference in the world, I have a 26hp compact tractor which is right in the sweet spot between small and large implements, and I have close to a dozen attachments, the auger and the crane arm aren't qh compatible, my ditcher is a class 0 all others are class 1 except my hogger is class 2, you can get pats in a class 2 configuration, but I just switched out my hogger pins for 7/8. Also I never run the locks or the crossbar and most of the time I don't run pats pin bushings just the stock snap pins work well enough and I've never had a problem.... I was going to weld washers on the end of the pins, but have never needed to.

I have temporarily removed my Pat’s Quick hitch. I used a heavy blade behind my tractor and I think I had some slippage with the bolts on the hitch along with at least one of the adjustment bolts breaking. Removing the hitch was difficult because the treads near the end of the bolts were damaged. I uses a tap to clean and recut the threads in the hitch because they were damaged and I bought new bolts. When I reinstall the hitches I’m hoping to use something like 1/2” copper pipe cap on the end of the adjustment bolts. I’m hoping that will limit future damage to the bolts.

I just ordered a set of Pat's Easy Change. I've been waffling between this and a Speeco quick hutch because it's hooks don't require the use of adapter bushings. But then I was looking at buying a Heavy Hitch for use with a rear blade. But Heavy Hitch specifically says its NOT compatible with the Speeco quick hitch. They don't say why its incompatible. And I'm wondering how many other potential toys .. err ... I mean TOOLS will be a problem as well. I have a subcompact Massey, getting on and off to hook up the top link and remove the spreader bar is not a big deal. I think the Pat's is going to work out well for me.

Well done, DIY. You hit the important pros/cons of each quick attach system and cost comparisons. I have the Harbor Freight quick hitch. All (but one) of my implements are quick hitch compatible. I chose Harbor Freight b/c of cost. I've had to deal with some issues. To reemphasize what you stated, folks MUST realize that all quick hitch compatible implements are NOT going to fit the quick hitch one chooses. There are numerous cases where some manufacturing detail/design of an implement prohibits a precise fit with the quick hitch. On the other hand, as you stated, if you purchase all same brand implements and use their recommended QH, the implements should all fit with ease. Example: Kubota sells a QH for their tractors (I think it's Landpride) and they also use Land Pride implements. Therefore, hookup and QH compatibility is smooth and w/o glitches (I think). Deere also has their own I-Match QH and Deere has 3 pt implements designed specifically for the I-Match QH. These are things a tractor owners should research prior to purchase of a QH and implements. I saved money and enjoy the my QH. Excellent video, Martin and explained very well. Have a fine week.
@DIYMyWay
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Don! Yes, indeed. You are right. When I was researching which to get, I noticed so many of the QH videos were about how people were having to modify them to work with their implements. I thought if I’m going to have to get off my tractor fairly often with a QH anyway, I might as well go with the Pat’s system which will work with any implement and requires no mods to implements. Stay safe and well!

deere quick hitch is made specifically for the tolerances of deere implements, non deere implements won't always work with the deere quick hitch, meaning you'll have to buy all deere implements or give up using your non deere implements with the deere quick hitch. deere hitch systems can not be relied on to be changed from one generation to the next as my 140H3 uses a system no longer used with the 445, and the 445 cat-0 system no longer works with the deere X series cat-1 system with out adapters to make it cat-1 that's 3 changes in less than 30 years.

I got a pats system, but cannot keep it tight. I keep bending the spacing bolts which allows the hitches to swivel on the lift arm. Any suggestions
@DIYMyWay
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Don! I keep the spacer bolts on mine tight on the lift arm with the jam nuts so that the hitches stay rigid. The four bolts on each hitch are adjusted so that the hitch stay mostly vertical in the common operating range of the lift arms. When the lift arms are really low the tops of the hitches lean out to the sides a few degrees but don’t interfere with hooking up implements. When the lift arms are full up the tops of the hitches lean in a few degrees, but again don’t affect operation. The hooks on the hitches are rounded to allow the implements to tilt to one side or the other without excess wear on the pins or the hooks, serving the same function as the ball connections on the ends of the lift arms. This has worked well for me, but the key is adjusting the four bolts on each hitch so they are essentially vertical in the normal operating range of the 3 point. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for this video. The tractor's own 3 point hitches are not made for ease of use or single mom ranchers under a 110lbs! I am looking to purchase a quick hitch or a Pat's. I was not aware of Pat's until today. I have a 2007 John Deere 790 compact tractor (its a baby tractor, I bought new back in 2007 now I wish I had something bigger, but I must work with what I have!) with a front end loader and I have a John Deere shredder that I purchased with it, box blade, post hole digger, ditch digger, and a couple of other implements I have accumulated over time. I like to change them out regularly but it takes me hours and using lots of leverage and physics to help me out. I'm just tired...not enough light in the day. Soo...how do I know if an implement is quick hitch compatible? Are there specific measurements I should check? I need help so I make the right purchase without pinching a finger off.
@DIYMyWay
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! There is no precise quick hitch standard and the measurements differ between Cat 1, 2 & 3 quick hitches. However, sticking with Cat 1, in general the distance between the center of the bottom hooks on a QH is between 28 3/8" and 28 3/4". The top hook on most QHs are adjustable so that the distance between the top hook and bottom hook can cover between about 15" and 18". Since you have a post hole digger, I think Pat's is the best bet for you. Beside's the Pat's is compatible with everything so you don't have to worry whether you can hook a QH to a specific implement. If you want to get more familiar with the Pat's, you may want to watch my on it: " Pat's Easy Change Quick Hitch: Review, Installation & Tips (#104)" kzitem.info/news/bejne/saKt0YWFbIR3p34 Good luck with your decision!

I've been using Pat's for about a year on my L3301. The nuts on the right side U bolt worked their way off, and the U bolt somehow got bent and had to use a hacksaw to get it off. The side bolts are way too long - when I removed them this week the threads on the bolts peeled off at the ends. Not sure what that's all about. I like your suggestion for the bungee cord - the stabilizer thing usually falls off when trying to use it.

If your ball is mounted to the drawbar and you are not using a PTO driven implement, I think it would be fine to leave the ball and draw bar on. I went with Pat’s. I don’t really change implements often enough to justify but since I’m getting older I try to make thinks simpler. To be able to use on more implements I bought a handful of washers and drilled a hole in each and put in a vise and bent them ninety degrees with a large hammer. I used a grinder to open the holes like the original but I later found out if I was careful I could leave the connecting part of the hole and no cutting was required. I recommend to make a pattern washer with a small hole and keep it for locating the right spot for drilling additional washers.

How's she goin'? I just got a quick hitch last fall. The reason I didn't get Pat's Easy Change was it was too expensive. Now wait - don't say or think anything just yet. As I started into getting my attachments 'quick hitch' compatible, that's when I discovered I needed all the other bits and pieces you mentioned in your video. So, like you, I agree the Easy Change system would end up being cheaper, but the initial cost was less for the quick hitch. And when all is said and done, I'm not sorry I got the quick hitch!!! Great video BTW and I hope you're doing OK. Take care!!!

Hi Wayne! If your new tractor's 3-point is Cat 1, then I recommend you look at Speeco's Cat 1 quick hitch. Most quick hitches are Cat 2, requiring you to buy bushings for all your implements. The Speeco saves you money and time by avoiding the cost and effort to install the bushings. Thanks for watching!

Awesome video sir!! Was hoping somebody would make one like this BEFORE I started getting the tractor and implements. As an upcoming future first time tractor owner starting from scratch, I am leaning on the pats system as it’s universal fit ability will reduce one aspect of implement selection allowing more purchase options when implement shopping. Remember, a tractor is like a wife, when you find the right one, that’s great! The problem is the commitment you make into buying “accessories “ for your chosen one🤪👍

I use pats as I store my impliments outdoors and the ground is not level like a shop floor, so hook up is easier with pats , and almost impossible with a quickhitch since it requires a level ground or shop floor for hooking up impliments.

In the scenario you gave with all Cat 1 implements, is a fairly simple/straight forward comparison. What do you suggest with a mix of Cat 1 and Cat 2 implements? We have an older tractor in mid 40 HP range like others only built a few years that has lift arms with both Cat 1 and Cat 2 on opposite ends. I use the Cat 2 ends and bushings if needed for Cat 1. Likely all implements are before prominent QH use and "standards". Does Pat's easy hitch work with both categories?
@DIYMyWay
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian! The Pat's system is available in both Cat 1 and Cat 2 models, so in your case it makes sense to get the Cat 2 Version of the Pat's system and keep Cat 2 bushings on your Cat 1 implements. Quick hitches are built as Cat 2 so if all your implements are QH compatible or easily modified, you could probably also make a QH work. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Also have a quick hitch but have combination of category one category two and category zero implements
@DIYMyWay
4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, I’ve heard others comment that they had skinnier lift arms (probably a subcompact tractor) and had to order extra shims to get the the Pat’s hook bodies to stay in line with the lift arms without hanging at an angle. For most tractors, the small shim or the large shim, or a combination of both is enough. One advantage of quick hitch is that most of them are Cat 2, allowing you to use implement from Cat 0 to Cat 2 with the right bushings on the implements. Thanks for watching!

Ya know, with the versatility of pats system, could tractor makers just design their lower link arms like that from the beginning? Seen European tractors like that with their lower arms like a CAT3 hook anyway. any reason to keep the current design instead or better to just switch?

Yeah, I’m surprised the US hasn’t caught on to some of the cool advances in tractor tech that they have in Europe that I guess we’re to proud to adopt here. Good video. I bought a JD quick hitch and have 4 compatible implements. I even measure the height between the lift and top pins to make sure I never have to adjust the hook. For the box blade, I have to extend the top link to line up the hook. I don't see why you would ever need a longer top link for a quick hitch, since it extends the top hook back as well as the lift hooks. Maybe you can elaborate. I do not plan on ever using a post hole digger, because my land is very hilly and my little 1025R is a bit too short to run it well. I agree that no implement is harder to put on and take off than a quick hitch. I learned of Pat's solution after my purchase. Otherwise, I may have gone that route. It would be nice to be able buy a cheap implement on auction without having to limit my selection to a compatible one.
@DIYMyWay

Thank, Terry! You are right that you are less likely to need a longer top link with a quick hitch than with the Pat’s. I really like having the option to use any implement I may want, including older ones. Thanks for watching!

Does Pat's easy change also change the length you should cut the PTO by 4 inches?
@DIYMyWay
4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you have to cut it, it would be cutting 4” less off. In my case, the PTO shafts for my implements were already the correct length so when I added the Pat’s, I just use a PTO extender to get the 4” back and not have to replace my PTO shafts. Thanks for watching!

I've watched several videos on quick hitch implements. I like your video comparing the Pat's Easy Change to a quick hitch. It appears there are pro and cons to every quick hitch or Pat's Easy Change system. I understand that the Speeco Cat 1 E-Hitch does not require the additional bushings on all the implements, so this is a plus for this brand. I wonder if going to a shorter sway bar so any quick hitch system, especially the Pat's Easy Change, might not be a good option to eliminate the additional length and loss of efficiency resulting from the extension of the sway bar?
@DIYMyWay
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've also heard Speeco makes a true Cat 1 QH which would save some money not having to buy bushings. I suppose you can try to find shorter lift arms, but the gain in efficiency isn't that much and I suspect it would be more expensive than getting a longer to link and maybe a PTO extender. Thanks for watching!

Appreciate the information as always. My Land Pride attachments for my 3301L Kubota are quick hitch compatible, so I went with a quick hitch. However, after checking the current prices of a Land Pride quick hitch versus a Speeco CAT1 E-hitch to include shipping, I decided to go with the Speeco. The main advantage I saw with the Speeco 1 E-hitch model is that this specific model is built for CAT 1 instruments only and you do not have to switch out the lower lift arm pin connection pieces. I have no plans on purchasing any attachments that require a CAT II or larger lift arm pin connection so this was the right one for me. Since I just received the quick hitch a few days ago, I have yet to put it on my tractor. I am also not really looking forward to going out in the snow at this time and doing so. Keep up the great videos and Happy Holidays. I place my attachments on pallets and am hoping that with the extra height, I will not have any trouble seeing the lower clamps when connecting. Cheers

I do love my Pat’s system, EXCEPT when using my scraper blade. I have a Tractor Supply non-tilting and, when you try to change the angle using your adjustable link, the scraper pins bind in the Pat’s and don’t let you get much of an angle. (e.g. scraping ditch sides)
