Well most of the time they yell it because people let go of the brakes and let their car slide back or forward on the track when they are laying across it causing more accidents, but your statement about being predicable is accurate.

Car going straight isn't sliding back onto the track - it's just a different way of the same thing.

@@TacticalCardboard as an example the number 5 car didn’t hold their brakes and rolled backwards unpredictably after they stopped cutting down on the room for the car behind to avoid them. Appreciate the reply and all your videos.

You know the video I did about doing good races? I spun here in the 6th corner, and twice more in the same lap and a half. Brutally horrendous driving, parked myself after this one. XD (My previous race here was a 0x LOL)

Brutal honest of you sir. I have seen so many videos of you racing and was genuinely impressed at how skilled of a driver you are so this was surprising. You smoked past me in a race once in a corner and I knew it was you. Later I saw your video of that race and saw that pass. You were like "excuse me...coming thru" and I cracked up. So EB.

Very good advice, unless you're in a papyrus sim, wherein the tires turn to solid glass the moment they lose traction and braking does nothing. Source: the amount of nr2003 wrecks I've been been in recently lol

The only time you need to be unpredictable is when you are racing for the win and have full control over your car and the situation around you, if it's a sketchy situation just try not to be the hero because it will probably end up in a wreck.

Great tip! But I would also add don't let go of the brake untill everyone behind have passed! Don't know how many cars I have hit, or got hit by because people that have wrecked can't understand to stay put till the coast is clear.. .

Lest anyone say this is "too basic to cover" - I will confess that when I started out it took me a while to realize _why_ holding your breaks when you wreck was beneficial to everyone else on the track - and this video makes it clear. Because you just keep going on a predictable trajectory so people have an easier time of routing around you.
@MrMW2nd

I always remember, spinning with locked brakes is like being on ice. Straight line. When you let off the brake the car will go wherever the wheels spin. It becomes easier to drive out of a crash that never happens
@jonlamontagne
3 жыл бұрын
Except for on a high-banked oval then light them up stay off the top wall both get down and wash down the track holding the brake. I only say this because you're going to wash down no matter what might as well try to be a little more predictable and go low as fast as you can. I also forgot crank the wheel all the way towards the apron making you go to low and if the line while both feet are down if course. I guess I could just say brake to the floor I doubt too many people in the ovals actually use their clutch just set auto clutch...

I am terrible at this, granted I do not race in public lobbies so that may be why... But I NEVER hold the brakes, when I get the SHTF moment, well it turns into some weird Ghymkana cross with a pinball machine at worst, a Ken Block performance at best to get the car back on the track and going again. It also has some interesting solutions pop up, fail to correct the slide? Turn into it and increase it and spin a full 360 to keep going. Naturally if I did this in a public iRacing lobby, I may end being the guy that causes everyone to finish that race cursing and riding the rails to get to the finish line because none of the cars can run straight or turn at that point and everyone getting a positive iRating because the server overflowed the values calculating the negatives so it went positive instead :D

@@mickaelsflow6774 That's what I meant: In my opionion there is nothing to learn. You lose control, you get on your brake. I don't understand what's not 100% natural about that.

@@rideroundandstuff The fact that driving a car is not natural perhaps? And that one might not be aware (read: definitely CANNOT know) that there is no automatic safety in this case and you have to apply input to make it safe? @@mickaelsflow6774 Well, duh, if I'd let my little brother try simracing I wouldn't expect it from him, yes. But we're talking about people on iRacing here. People who are wiling to spend a monthly fee on racing virtual cars. And in this very case they put enough time into it to make it out of rookies. I most definitely expect them to understand what a brake pedal is and what it does.

@@rideroundandstuff But this isn't specifically for iRacing. Sure the clip is from iRacing but the advice applies to all sims where not everyone will have passed that barrier to entry and lets be honest it happens so often on iRacing anyway. There will be rookies who have very little experience (if any) in a car either irl or in a sim who will find this video & advice useful even if it seems obvious to an experienced sim racer like you

In my experience on i-racing.... not many really care about being responsible racers. Half of them let off the brakes intentionally when they wreck, just to make the wreck bigger. Wish i-racing was more ban-happy.

They actually are. You have to file a protest though. I don't know why this isn't more common at iRacing. People complain all the time, but filing a complaint isn't a regular thing.

@@rideroundandstuff I had a guy divebomb me into T1 twice in the same race from more than half a second back in the Mazda. Second time we wrecked as I took the racing line as the lead car into the turn. Full video replay of course and review said it was just a racing accident which is a joke quite frankly. Reviews aren't all they are cracked up to be.

@@johnnypenso9574 but if he's doing it enough, aggressively taking out other drivers and enough people protest eventually he'll get taken care of. But if you don't protest because you feel iracing is just going to say it's a racing incident then nothing really does end up happening because iracing doesn't know about all the other times he's taken people out. Also go through the race and see if they've taken any other drivers out and report those as well.
@johnnypenso9574

@@shiftdnb Sorry, doesn't make sense. Either divebombing from a half second back is illegal or it's not. I had two incidents in one race and both were adjudicated as not a problem. He shouldn't have to do it several times in order to get punished.

Personally I find this to be some of the stupidest advice there is if you’re going to apply it all the time. It has its uses and times to be used sure. Don’t get me wrong. But if I start to spin, depending on the situation, I’m gonna gas it up. It’s something that’s gotta be done entirely through the feel of the car.
@SebastianWoodard

At least in oval. I know nothing about road racing really. I know my ovals. If you’re high line and you start to lose it, lock the tires up, you’re sliding into the outside wall, possibly traffic depressing on how hard you hit. If you’re inside and lock your tires, you’re going to drive right through some traffic.
