I'm going to watch it all, short or long so as much as you can stand is fine by me. Of course I'd also love to listen to the next audiobook of your writing series so I'm torn between KZitem and you writing more guides and books :)

Personally, I look forward to these all week. I'm greedy, so I vote for longer. Longer and more often. Daily. Forty-five minutes in the morning, an hour in the evenings. Seriously though, you're the one being kind enough to share this info freely, so i say whatever length you're moved to provide is fine with me. (more, longer)

I personally feel that both the short and longer videos are effective, and it might actually be more interesting for us, and for you, to mix it up a little. A balance between different length and style of video would enhance the channel, and it definitely helps to include "quick tip" as part of the title, even though I guess we can see the duration, anyway. Clarity is always good. I value your videos, and the advice that you give.

Personally, I love the variety. There are times when I have 30 minutes to kill - driving home from work, etc. Then there are other times when I only have five minutes of free time. Keep up the excellent work. Thank you.

I like both formats, they both have their uses. I like the longer ones to watch as more of a workshop type thing when I have time to watch, usually on a weekend. But this short one is a great way for me to start my writing day, listen to the tip and immediately put it into practice.

All your videos are worth watching, Chris. I do enjoy the particular focus, though. Sometimes I want a quick fix of KZitem inspiration, sometimes I'm sipping coffee and relaxing. Mixing it up is never a bad thing, and you're catering for a broader audience.

What you said about Twilight is similar to what the creator of the Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros said about why he did not give the characters too much of a backstory - he wanted the focus to be on adventure and for Link and Mario to be representations of the player....

First of all: thank you for all your help and advice, and the time you spend on these videos, they do help a lot :) Second: English isn't my native language and I honestly don't know how my mind warped what you said. I had my phone in my pocket and had to rewind, because when you said pulling the ripcord (only heard cord) and it wasn't working, I thought of a respirator and someone pulling the plug, which made me think; where the hell is this going? Someone trying to kill someone by pulling the plug and it isn't working? xD It would make for a plot point though...

What are the right questions??? Do the questions depend on the book and the book's context, or are they just more general, obvious questions like the reader wants to know what happens? Are they questions about the character's mental state? Now I really wanna know what questions we want the reader asking... that would really, really help...

So how do you come up with your book covers? Do you do them yourself or do you have an artist?
@ChrisFoxWrites
7 жыл бұрын
I work with several different artists, depending on the genre I'm writing. It's expensive to have original artwork made, but worth it for fiction. Depending on the genre, you might be able to get away with a premade cover.

Short is good, Chris. But if the reader superimposes his/her gender on the main character, how can you capitalise on that if they get it wrong? How can you get readers of both genders to empathise with the fictional character? And what happened to the poor parachutist?
@ChrisFoxWrites
7 жыл бұрын
It depends on what genre you're writing. In a thriller, you want to establish gender quickly. This can be done simply by using third person so we see 'he' or 'she'. If you're writing something with a comedic edge, you could probably capitalize on the reader mistaking the gender, but that would be tightly integrated with the tone and context of the book. One of the wonderful things about fiction is that we can get readers to empathize with any character simply by making them familiar with that character. Even the antagonist is more sympathetic once we see from their PoV. Bonus points if you are showing the character overcoming problems that the reader can easily understand. We like competent people.

This sounds like one of those dumb stories that start at the end and than go on to explain how the character got to that point.
