Personally think lighting (particularly for KZitem videos), gets overlooked too often. Glad to see you sharing some (near) free tips, I usually go with 3 sets of LED lights (cheap off eBay) and a desk lamp, but always love seeing your lighting 'fixes'. Thanks!

Hey Ry, I'm shooting a night scene in the next week or so, I'm shooting in the middle of a field with no outlets at all. What would you recommend i use? An LED light that i can put on top of my camera, or a ring light?
@MichaelClarkson84
10 жыл бұрын
Will your vehicle have access to the field? If so you could use your car headlights. Otherwise most LED lights come with battery power. I would recommend those. you can also get some powerful torches, Bounce the light off a couple of £5 reflector screens and you're good to go

Very useful. I had to shoot a scene with a round-table dinner conversation between 6 people, and the only way to get consistent lighting and dramatic lighting was to use about ten 75-100W Halogen lights (as they don't flicker, and have a consistent tungsten daylight balance) installed in various lamps around the house to add some depth to the background. Actually, that would be my only criticism of this video, is that you didn't mention the TYPES of bulbs that should be used, as fluro's typically have a horrid greenish cast to them and flicker which is a problem when shooting slow-mo or non-standard shutter speeds.

Hey Ryan! My friends and I are trying to make a video every day this month, and this will definitely be helpful as I experiment with lighting more. A quick question I have (that really anyone can answer) is something I couldn't answer myself is this: how much does that high heat spray paint cost? Google tells me it's anywhere from $9-$39 and I'm kinda nosing around for a slightly more precise figure. Thanks to anyone who answers!

I recently started thinking about getting some soft boxes cause my friends all have them and they're pretty cheap and I was gonna buy some clamp lights for a harder light source and use blue gels to even the color out. But now I'm not so sure if I should get the 3 soft boxes or maybe get more clamp lights :o
@LeoStriker17

I actually thought of another trick as well. For different color lights I would cover a light bulb with translucent cups or party cups and use some electrical tape I found around my house. I even tested to see how hot it could get and it wasn't that bad or bad at all.

Ryan, first off great work. Quick question that might seem silly but it makes me nervous. I only have about a 1yr 1/2 experience in video production from working for V.I.M.B.Y to producing for a local T.V. station (Phx,Az). I want to branch off on my own now. My question is, I didn't go to school for any of my knowledge just reading forums and watching kick ass tutorial like yours then trial and error. How do I even the playing field in my market against "professional" videographers who have many more years of experience with schooling (Although my work can compete with theirs) without underselling my skill set to score a job? Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I have a question for you........what cameras do you use to film this show? And what type of shotgun mic do you recommend?
@paulocone1963
10 жыл бұрын
They use a Canon C100 and a Canon 5D Mk II. For a shotgun mic, a Rode NTG-2/NTG-3 (more expensive) or Azden SGM 1X/2X (less expensive). Be sure to grab a recorder for the mic as well.

Hey guys, question for the mail sack. What is the use of external recorder/monitors? After some research I can see it can bypass compression and get a slightly nicer image but can you also shoot higher resolutions? I saw the Atomos Shogun can record 4K on certain cameras that don't internally record 4K but it surely can't pull 4K from any camera can it?

Technically speaking Ryan, don't you think gels being translucent allow more light to pass through hence giving more color and luminance but turning a normal bulb into an opaque colored bulb actually diminishes both of these parameters?
