1:24 You're half right. It's not "under water". Its for standing water, like if your basement was flooded. If it's underwater, everything in side is fucked. If that's what a sale person told you, they're wrong. I've built these types of safes for 6 years after high school.

Nice gun safe, affordable. Picked one up at BJs, fathers day special. Just a some info. Thing weights about 400 lbs so be careful. Feet aren't exactly flush so it teeters and most important, it will NOT fit 24 AR type rifles, especially with optics and pistol grips. Only got ten to fit. If you need to fit more, I recommend saving a little more and buy something bigger. But like I said, I got a deal that I couldn't pass up.

The 4 feet are installed for shipping purposes, they are meant to be removed by the consumer before bolting the safe to the floor. According to the booklet failure to do so will void the warranty.

This safe MODEL 24EDBWBJ on sale for $449 at BJ's Wholesale Club as of 6-30-23. Same safe is sold at Dicks Sporting Goods and other retailers, the BJ's model has the "BJ"in the model number. Also not sure how accurate it is but the listed weight is considerably higher on BJ's model vs other retailers.

Nice. Looks like Dick's has this and the 18 gun for around $650 and $550 on a flash sale, around $200 off, and for me the biggest issue is deciding on if the extra weight is worth it. With it only being a couple inches bigger, and the fact that you said they're more densely packed in the 24 version, I'm leaning towards the smaller 18 gun that will probably almost fit as much.
@redhawkvalley

I like the backlit keypad on the 24 gun safe better than the one on the 18 and if you have more than 3 handguns, the extra 3 pockets on the door of the 24 is nice. Otherwise the 18 wins in my book for cost to capacity. I picked up the 24 gun for $399 in '21 and the 18 gun for I think $329 in '22 just for reference to what BJ's had them for on Black Friday. For those prices I felt they were both great deals for what they are. Just as an estimate for what I've found with these particular safes: Any long gun with pistol grip OR an optic reduces capacity by 30% and anything with a pistol grip AND an optic reduces capacity by 50%, both numbers are approximate of course.

@@redhawkvalley it's crazy to think they can sell them for so little. Most safes around that price are just metal lockers, and those don't even seem to be all that readily available. Too bad I don't have a BJ's nearby. Do they both feel small enough to easily fit in your clost? how about the weight difference? Online it sounds like there's maybe an 80 pound difference between them.
@redhawkvalley
Жыл бұрын
@@Excalibur2 Those prices were only during Black Friday, they normally are a bit more. These definitely fit easily in a normal closet, but I would double check the exterior dimensions. The weight difference between the two is noticeable, but if you take the door off and use a hand truck (run a ratchet strap around the safe and hand truck to lock them together) you can easily move either one around on the same floor. Up or down steps I would definitely suggest a friend help you out-- I learned that the hard way trying to hulk the 24 up some steps by myself-Haha. My back is still a bit sore from that.

The shelves are each around 9.7" wide and 12" deep. The vertical divider in the middle is about 1" thick. This totals about 20.5" total interior width that is advertised. Hope these dimensions are what you were looking for.

I believe there are 2 pre drilled holes in the base where you normally bolt it to the floor. I guess one of these could be used to pass a wire through if you support the safe off the floor to give an appropriate standoff. Otherwise you would have to drill a new hole because there is NOT a designated hole for wiring out the sides or back. I use desicant bags and battery powered lights for mine so haven't needed to run electric inside the safe.

@@carpusdiem I took a look at the bottom and the thru holes for the bolt down kit are approximately. 3/8" diameter. So you would have to cut and splice the power chord to fit it through those. Best of luck with your safe decision and potential purchase.

I have the same 24 gun safe , I’m nervous putting it on my second floor…. Your thoughts?
@redhawkvalley
Жыл бұрын
There are some decent articles out there about this topic. In reviewing those I believe it should be ok in a "modern" home designed for 40 lb/ft^2 live load minimum, but would recommend placing it near a load bearing wall. Do some more research though as all homes out there aren't built to code. I say this because I don't want to hear that somebody used this comment to install a heavy safe over a floor with 2"x4" floor joists with a 20' span and the floor failed- lol. The door can come completely off to lighten the load when moving it up the steps if you decide to go that route.
@vanceyamy2008
Жыл бұрын
Ya I read many articles and people were all over the board on responses. I may just put plywood door to disperse the weight. My home is newer so I don’t think I have anything to worry about. One person said it’s like having two 300 lb people standing in one spot , I’m sure you wouldn’t be worried about them falling thru the floor.
@redhawkvalley
Жыл бұрын
@@vanceyamy2008 and if your house has a basement or crawl space the first and second floors are essentially the same in load carrying capacity and construction. So there's that reason as well. Good luck in getting your safe in the best location for your needs.
