People in the comments being like "yeah quicksand isn't nearly as gnarly as it was in the movies" and while yes that is true and that IS like.. A whole thing; quicksand is still very scary and CAN kill you, there are huge areas of quicksand that if you don't know is quicksand can easily get you trapped in the middle of it by trying to walk out on it, it takes a ridiculous amount of force to break free from quicksand and can take a really long time if you get stuck real good, which isn't super hard to do, long enough that depending on where you are and your situation, you may have a hard time surviving say desert heat for example.

Not quite, as you could see from him tapping his foot on it, it resists flowing the more force is applied to it. You can even run across it if your feet are quick enough. Mostly the can was floating on the quicksand before he pushed it in. The issue is when you do start sinking, which is when the behavior turns against you, between the vacuum seal and the non-newtonian behavior solidifying the quicksand around you. At that point you're trapped and can only get out slowly and by moving along the bottom, which hopefully isn't deep enough to drown you.

@@fernandaabreu5625 eh, for the most part not really, my life's been pretty balanced between good, fun, and bad, depressing shit. Most of my family is dead, my biological father's a sex offender, my mom was controlling, but I got to travel cause my stepdad was in the military. I've been through a few tornados, blizzards and some tropical storms, a weak hurricane, hailstorms and wind storms, watched a firefighter training gig where they set an old abandoned home on fire to practice drills. Got to see president Obama on base, but also spent half my life in psychiatric hospitals due to misdiagnoses and nearly died to a prescribed overdose. I got to see the grand canyon, the saint Luis arch, the mall of America, that 4 corners place, and I've been to almost 15 states I think? For the most part, my life has been balanced, but since I became an adult and everything, it's been more smooth. Life's been way better for me lately, my mom drove me crazy living with her haha, so moving out helped me stay out of the hospital. Life balances out all things considered, if your strong enough to hold through and live through the hard times that is. Edit: most people would probably think the weather parts aren't good and my life would probably be unbalanced in their eyes lol, but for me, I love weather of all severities even if my own place gets destroyed haha, so I counted those as good things, sheesh, maybe I am a little crazy after all 😂 Second edit: I have autism and an infp personality type, I'm also quite introverted, so I was never good at making or keeping friends. I've been on my own mostly tbh. Constantly moving made it impossible to make friends at all for me. Even now it's probably been 3 years since I spoke to my childhood friend and 8 years prior to that.

Sure, it’s hard when you first start off as an adult, but when you work harder and look back at the many challenges you’ve conquered, you’ll have this new sense of pride. @@ryancarson4057 yea I know that much, though I don't really have a drive to go much further than I have so far lol. Though that would definitely change as soon as somehow find someone to love XD. I'm not chasing it or anything, but I fell for a catfish a while back and back when I thought it was real I had all the motivation I'd ever need, but before that, I had a pretty fickle motivation, though as a poster child of what a Libra is haha, everything eventually balances out for me no matter how bad things get. I've been fortunate for that much at least. Life's been much better since I became an adult, though because of the fact that I'm actually quite happy in isolation from people but can be happy around people too, I've joked at times that I'm probably one of the few humans that could mentally handle immortality. I've lost damn near everything, and gained most of it back after a while pretty often, and I was barely effected. To be honest, I didn't really trust my fellow humans before I was even diagnosed or half the shit I went through happened. WARNING BELOW MAY BE CONTROVERSIAL FOR SOME DO NOT PROCESSED IF YOUR OVERLY SENSITIVE TO RELIGIOUS SUBJECTS: I used to go to church but eventually by about age 6 I realized god doesn't exist and I started paying more attention to people in the church. Far too many false followers exist, and the church is just getting rich off them. I read the Bible, I know damn well the majority of Christians don't follow the teachings and likely never will, pretty confident that the same can probably be said for all religion though. There's very few genuinely devout followers of all gods and God. Like what happened to turn the other cheek when your spurned? Or what happened to treat thy neighbor like you would treat thy friends? From my experience most of them use religion as a cover for their hate of others and abuse it against them. Seeing that corruption as a kid probably fucked me up a bit 😂. I was a genuine follower of God back then, I was gullible enough to believe in an invisible man in the sky. I asked God for confirmation that he was real by asking him to show me something from the old testament. Nothing happened. I used the scientific method testing how prayer may work trying to figure out how to reach God the way they did back then in the old testament when God was more active among the people. All I got was proof he didn't exist and prayers are useless. Nothing ever got answered so I started doing things myself and left religion behind. Probably what pushed me to be better and improve myself to the point I am now honestly. Knowing I only have one life to live and no after life, I stopped risking shit, I started being safer and smarter about stuff, and my IQ even jumped from 86-136 from age 10-12. I started researching mythology back then and honestly I came to the conclusion that the most realistic approach to a God or Gods, was actually the Greek gods. First off, my logic: no being can be perfect not even an immortal, we were made in the image of the deity's, and I asked myself what could possibly explain why and how so much horrible shit happened and has been allowed to happen. Synopsis: the Greek gods are known to be quite fickle, where the most human in behavior, and it would explain the diversity of our DNA and all the different looks people can have because if we were made in a deity's image literally, not a single god in Greece ever looked the same. How the bad shit happened like diseases and death and all other shit like that according to ancient Greece? This is a short, ad-libbed version of the story based on my understanding: Pandora was a curious girl with a box that we'll call Pandora's box, a spirit/goddess was trapped inside but along with that being was all the curses and disease. Pandora kept hearing stuff from the box and eventually opened it not realizing what she released upon the world that day. Of course that's still not enough proof that any religion is real, but, if I were to return to any faith, I think I'd be a pagan by today's standards. I mean shit, Athena turned arachne into a literal spider in a fit of spite that a human could think they could beat her in a sowing competition. That sounds like human emotions to me. Though enough about that trail I'm rambling now haha sorry for going off topic like that, bad habit. I did all that research before I was even old enough to drive 😂. It was only when I turned 13 I discovered what LGBT stood for and I found myself then. I honestly learned a lot about myself and my flaws and limitations since then. I learned how sheltered I was being by my mom, and ironically enough that's when my psychiatric insanity ended as well because my misbehavior stopped as well. 10-12 years later and here we are, my lesbian ass rambling about the past on the internet like an old lady XD. But I consider myself pretty successful so far despite having almost no genuine friends in my life and being poor, cause mg definition of success is being happy, having a roof over my head, affording enough healthy food to survive on a good diet, and afford my preferred clothes. It's still slower than I'd like but I got into investing and have been doing pretty well despite the bad market lately. Got a mess of a cat screwing with me lol and keeping me company so I'm not too lonely haha. I don't see much I can improve outside of my quality of life, the speed of my money intake, and a real loyal lover. Maybe even a small home as well would be nice, probably like a modernized log cabin. But that's a far into the future type thing. I've made it far on my own with almost no support. But it hasn't been easy and I almost gave up twice. (Censoring myself for KZitem: but I mean almost MIAd myself twice because shit got really tough, but I realized the second time I could never actually follow through with it. Despite everything, I still had and still have hope for a better tomorrow. And that honestly won't go away no matter how bad things get. Success isn't just money, it's about where you think you can take yourself and achieving those goals over time. That's true success.

Both more and less. Less in you will not sink and drown in 2 minutes(much to the dismay of quicksand fetishists the world over), more in that uf you do get down in it, it holds you there with a several tons of force making straightforward extraction impossible. Gotta pump more water into it then get pulled out, or try to get your displacement shifted by lying on your back.

I think you just helped me understand quicksand. Once in, the surrounding volume exerts a greater pressure. The liquified grains will mold to any shape, making you more stuck the longer and more still you stay. And of course gravity will help you sink slowly.. would be interesting to see if you could leave the can there (and of, course remove the recurring tide as a variable), and return after some time to see if it sinks in (but that may require the van to be if a certain weight to displace the liquid+sand underneath). If I'm wrong, I'm open to an explanation.. =o)

I went for a little stroll to "explore" annnnd I got a couple hundred yard in and then.... flmmmmmmmmmmphhhhh... I sank like a goddamn stone, bro. In less than a second I was up to my belly button and completely and utterly fucking stuck. I lost my shoes trying to free myself and had to dig them out after. My cousin had to come help me with a board from hundreds of yards away, when he and his wife finally stopped pissing themselves with laughter. All and all, good times.

In the 80s quick sand was our worst nightmare. We all needed a friend around to pull us out with a stick in case of emergency.

@Robert TL;DR most people don't drown in quicksand, they drown in the ocean-when the tide comes in, the quicksand holds them under. Wilderness first responder here, based in what I was taught in wilderness training, quicksand realistically doesn't drown people on its own. Your suspicions are correct; it is much too dense to sink in. Theoretically, you should float better in quicksand than in water. But if you do struggle, you can still sink in deeper and deeper, and while it's unlikely that you would sink deep enough to go under, if you were to get stuck in a position where your head went under, it would be a struggle to get it back out. It can also compress your chest and make it difficult to breathe. But overwhelmingly, the most dangerous thing about quicksand is simple. You get stuck in it. Full rescue teams are often required to dig people out. If I remember correctly, compressed air or additional water can sometimes be used to change the viscosity of the quicksand, because pulling alone can put a dangerous amount of tension (hundreds of kilos) on a person's limbs. In lieu of a rescue team, most people can't get out on their own. They get stuck there, exposed to the elements, hypothermia, dehydration. But what really makes quicksand lethal is a factor of where it usually forms: tidal zones. As I understand it, the vast majority of people killed by quicksand don't drown in quicksand, they drown in the ocean, when the tide comes in and they can't get free. So yeah, that's pretty terrifying, to think that you would have hours to anticipate your imminent drowning.

Fun fact: quick sand isn't deep enough to fully bury you to suffocate the reason why you suffocate is because of the pressure on your chest
