I'm familiar with the tech, but haven't seen tons of installations so I'm sure that this has already been done, but if you had strips of these running up stairs or down a hallway you might be able to use a radar sensor or something to have a group of emitters lead a person to and fro depending on which direction they were headed. It could even use different temps and brightnesses at different times of day and night. This could be a good use for an addressable white strip and a nice, but classy effect that doesn't puke RGB everywhere ;).

Is this only on strips or does it also exists in pixels? Loved to have it outside during the Christmas season. I've looked for it but couldn't find it. If anyone knows about it coupd you please share the link? Thanks.

I'm planning the renovation of a house and wonder about the use of single color led stripes? Somehow it would be very nice to be able to show some animations over the general lights, but colors aren't needed. WWA Stripes look nice, but often a single color would be enought. @Quin do you have some experience in such LED-Stripes? And also about the controller, would you suggest to use WLED or ESPixelstick? Thank you :)

Sadly addressable white is generally if not always of low quality white. Even RGBW or WWA, all low CRI. The only variant I know of with at least a decent CRI is new 24v addressable RGBW COB LED strip. Other then that it can in no way be used for primary lighting.

Do you know if there is a 12v version? or even a 24v? To my understanding 5v isn't the best choice for a 5m length project (kitchen worktop lighting) Do you suggest this 5v 96Led/m wwa or can i make it with a 12v 96Led/m WS2811 RGB? by the way is 96led enough?

Yeah, ive been pondering how i will do my hallway and living room. I've already done my bedroom with recessed RGBW addressable in a decorative drop ceiling setup. But yeah, using RGBW everywhere is kinda stupid. WWA is a much better solution. The awesome thing about LED strips is that as long as you don't run them hot, they will last 15+ years. Unlike any normal LED/CFL lamp which is engineered to run hot so they fail and you need to buy replacements.

I use about 10 meters of this strip in my living room and I personally have no complains about it. Further I plan to use them in my next project too... There I want to use it besides a WS2812B RGB stripe so that I have the full RGB but also the white spectrum from the SK6812 WWA.

What is a good WW/CW led strip? Been using a CCT RGBWW/CW strip for some time now, but not impressed with the light output
@IntermitTech
5 жыл бұрын
Check quinled.info , I have some pages there about which LED strip I've tested and recommend, including some CCT strip from Gree which is pretty ok. Best way to get the most light output is to just use 2 full strips though, you can do CCT just as well with that and have much more output! Using RGB+CCT is a compromise really. You get fair RGB with some shitty white (in my opinion) and all of it is not super bright because it has to share a package and power. So when I need it I mostly deploy RGB and a separate white (or two) strips.

Is the sk6812 the bet strip on the market?I got ripped off with some crappy overpriced kit which was horrible. I went to a specialist who will sell me some strip starting from £10 per meter. They say commercial grade. I basically want 13m of strip around my theater room to give a strong halo effect. Changing colour would be nice as I may get board of the same colour. Your videos are great but it’s a lot to take in as I know very little on these subject. Please tell what power supply I need. I ready to buy now. Thanks in advance

SK6812 is a nice LED chip since it is available in WWA or RGBW variants for instance. But there is a lot you need to take into account when doing such a large LED project. Things like power injection, maximum LEDs per channel, etc. If you do want to do this DIY, which can be really fun, I suggest reading some of the articles I have listed on my quinled.info website, including wiring diagrams and all kinds of other stuff!

I think it would be pretty nice, the three colors of white look good although I'm not certain as far as CRI goes. It's 100x then RGB strip and even the RGBW variants but it's still meant for effects rather then super accurate lighting. So as I mostly advise, as accent lighting this will be awesome, but as main lighting, especially for in a kitchen, get something high CRI.

Hey there - I am really enjoying your material. I have also been into your articles and have a question about quinled.info/2018/08/23/the-color-white-and-cri-ra/ Q: do you feel that the colour of opaque diffusers change either the CRI or the colour temp on LED strip? I intend to buy the quality strip you recommend, but am concerned that opaque diffuser might negatively affect either of these criteria. What do you think? Cheers, J.

I use the strips with the milky/frosted diffusers in several places and only notice it gets a bit more dim, not that it influences the quality of the light.

@@BenDiger QuinLED is just the hardware. It's the firmware that needs to be compatible with Google Assistant which currently is not the case (here AirCoookie, the author of WLED explains why: kzitem.info/news/bejne/snyCsH-icIujeaA). A workaround could be to use Home Assistant as explained here kzitem.info/news/bejne/snyCsH-icIujeaA)
