Hi there, I am sorry to trouble you, but I've been looking over yours and indeed various led videos trying to figure something out, and I wondered if I could ask your opinion for a moment as I am having some difficulty. I am building myself an acrylic top desk and I am going to edge light it. I am trying to choose an LED type, but there is a particular look I want and on a HDR TV they all look real nice and real similar. Hence, the problem. The type of light I am looking for is more filament/nixie look to it on the reds, ambers, 1800K colour temps if such a thing can be applied from light bulbs I use to led tech, that deep less neon more industrial kind of glow. I've been looking at various types and have kind of settled on WS2811, but I wondered if you had an opinion as frankly I know little and am judging by what I see on screen as I don't have samples to look at in real life. Many thanks for your time.

Yeah colors can be really hard, most digital LEDs however are the same, especially the ones that use an internal chip since those are all from the same places. If you want to stick with digital and want amber and gold orange take a look at sk6812 WWA (I have a video about it). For pure nice colors take a look at ws2811 "bright" from BTF. Since it uses an external ws2811 chip they can use different, beter quality RGB LED packages and I like them a whole lot more! Hopefully it helps! Take a look at my comparison video too quinled.info/2019/06/03/what-digital-5v-12v-rgbw-led-strip-to-buy/

Seriously dude. Thank you for all the work you've put into this hobby. You've made a lot of professional grade lighting setups significantly more accessible for a lot more people. It's definitely helping push the space to innovate and will hopefully continue to encourage LED manufacturers to provide new and improved diodes for us to play with.

I got my Dig-Octa systems from Allnet a few days ago. Expensive shipping but it arrived very fast to the USA. I'm exceptionally happy with the whole system. I thought the dig-quad was perfect, but I didn't know what I was missing. These things are awesome. Such easy power distribution, smart layout, and high capacity for both number of LED's and amp handling. It's easy to tell that you spent considerable brain power on how to build these smartly. I can't believe they are so affordable.

I'm designing an outdoor holiday/accent lighting rig for my house, incorporating a Dig-Octa system (brainboard & 7HC powerboard), and I have a question: I'm planning on using BTF's WS2815 30/m strips, but the wiring has me slightly puzzled... Does the backup data line in the strips get connected to a second (or in my case, a third or fourth) data channel on the Brainboard, or does it get grounded, as I have seen other ESP32 users do? FWIW, I'm going to be running around 1,900 pixels' worth of WS2815 strips, broken up into at least four separate zones for control - I'm assuming the 600 pixel-per-channel limit is still the way to go. It should be, err, interesting...

But there is a basic thing I can't undestand (I'm a beginner in building my own system) : How to use the ethernet port of the octa brainboard for artnet ? I saw on your website it's possible but I could find how. How do I find the octa system in touchdesigner or resolume and directly send information to it ? Is there a way to control or edit the number of universe for each port ? Or does the octasystem has a predefined number of channels ?

@IntermitTech

Did you check the associated articles on the website? Quinled.info -> digital - > Dig-Octa - > your powerboard. But all powerboards will fit 16AWG with ferrule with ease, power-5 up to 14AWG, power-7 up to 12AWG and using the double up feature up to 8AWG output. Brainboard is a bit more limited but the generic 18AWG or smaller should fit fine, with ferrule too.

@@IntermitTech I appreciate your reply. My apologies. I left out alot of info you may need. They are sk6812 rgbw strips at 144 led/m at 43.2w/m. The entire strip is 2m. The power consumption was listed on btf lighting's aliexpress listing. To me it sounds high, seeing as it has dedicated whites. I wanted to do a 2m run as ambient lighting on a wall in my living room, I'm shooting for at least 7 ft of wire run. I can possibly do 3-4ft and place the power supply on my mantle that was left behind from a blocked off fire place if that is more feasible.

There is an article already! quinled.info/quinled-dig-octa-relay-output-standby-power/ but basically it allows you to have 2 power supplies like a phone charger using USB-C and a big 12v power supply for your LEDs connected at the same time. Then using a relay you can automatically turn on/off the big power supply to save (lots) of power when the LEDs are off, using the USB-C one as a standby power supply consuming 1w or 2w only.
