I do this at times and I wondered if it was a bad thing. I always thought of it as it’s the same rally drivers do with left foot braking just not as extreme. I realized when you overlap the bike just kind of becomes smoother. I absolutely love your content.

Coming from a 2005 Harley FLHTPI Electra Glide, and now riding a 2017 1200RT, the braking practice is, apparently, quite different. My understanding of the Harley was that to touch the front brake in slow maneuvering turns meant an express trip straight down to the pavement. So, I avoided the front brake, dragged the rear brake and stayed in the clutch friction zone. The RT will take some time for me to "unlearn" some things. I will be adjusting my front brake lever on the RT to allow index finger cover at all times. The brakes on the RT are FAR superior to those on the Harley. GREAT instruction, sir. Thank you.

Great video Quinn. Can you overflood a fuel injected motorcycle if you practice that technique with the engine off? Older carburated engines for sure, but I'm not so sure about the FI engines that still use a throttle cable. Your BMW is ride by wire so you don't have that problem.

I think if you have the petcock turned off, and the carb is drained, you should be fine twisting the throttle until the cows come home. But I'm not sure if your bike has a fuel petcock, and if the carb has fuel in the bowl, it might cause flooding even with the engine off...I know some of my older two-strokes will flood with the gas on and the carb full. If you want to practice this in a static environment, I'd just grab a mountain bike or similar, and simulate the throttle twisting motion, its essentially going to feel the same, then when comfortable, transfer over to the motorcycle. Good Luck, let me know how it goes!

I just reread your question, and for some reason originally thought you were saying you had an old carbureted bike. I think you are fine with any fuel injected system, as long as you are not cranking the motor at the same time. I think that is where it can start sucking fuel.

@@PoliceMotorTraining All good Quinn, thanks for your replies. Its a Honda ST 1300 by the way. Do you have any experience riding that motorcycle, I thought I saw you on one in one of your videos or photos.

@@devianthousend yes, I don’t want personally and competed for a few years on one. Fantastic motorcycle. It is an outdated platform but it’s still performs just fine these days.

Again, your absolutely spot on !!! Your explanation is perfect, that’s were a lot of instructors loose people Thanks again for such dedication to teaching and explaining the geometrics of a motorcycle. By the way I have a unicycle arriving today.

Did somebody say UNICYCLE!? Hell yes! First off, HUGE thanks for the kind words, really means a ton to hear, I appreciate it. 2nd, congrats on a UNI! Now that being said, make sure you take your time to get the hang of it. I think the general consensus is 16-20 hours of balance practice (going back-and-forth on each leg rocking the crank arms while holding on to something) before you actually try and ride. I watched lots of "learn to ride" videos and allowed myself a few weeks of after-work practice before I tried to ride it. Just allow yourself that. But man, you will gain SO MUCH for your motorcycle riding its truly immeasurable!

@@PoliceMotorTraining Can you recommend a unicycle for a beginner? I'm fascinated by with the crossover possibilities. I'm 5'9 id that helps.

@@Jdesrosiersdfd3 thanks buddy. I appreciate your support and congratulations on the unicycle. While the door to your social life may start to close your balancing skills will flourish ha ha keep me posted on your progress and take it slow, the road goes on forever. Don’t get frustrated trying to learn it in one day you have the rest of your life to ride.

Thanks - "may" do so - depending how I get on. Will watch your technique vid's. BUT UK trained (& civilian advanced rider qualified), using UK Police Roadcraft methods which can differ, (e.g trail braking, simultaneous throttle/front brake overlap & front brake use when turning often discouraged). Ex L.E.O (qualified driver), but civilian only rider. On bigger bikes 2.5 years. Regular slow control practice already here. Other US based patrol officer technique vids prior seen - so I am not clueless😅 Thank you for your service 😉👍🏍
