Quotes from Rusticus.
Rusticus (c. 100 - 170 CE) was a Roman Stoic philosopher and a prominent teacher of philosophy during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Rusticus was born in southern Italy and studied under the Stoic philosopher Quintus Junius Rusticus. He later became a teacher himself and counted among his students the future Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Rusticus was known for his emphasis on living a life in accordance with Stoic principles, which included cultivating wisdom, living a virtuous life, and accepting the natural course of events. He also believed in the importance of serving society and held public positions in Rome, including as consul in 162 CE. Rusticus was eventually put to death for his opposition to the persecution of Christians under Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Despite his relatively short life, Rusticus had a significant impact on the development of Stoic philosophy and continues to be studied and admired by philosophers and scholars today.
