Dear Sunnis! You are stuck in false dichotomies that have plagued your communities for 1400 years. The expression ”God and his Messenger” is a singularity not a plurality. Yes 4:59 does say to refer to ”God and his messenger” in matters of disputers but when ”God and his messenger” issuee judgements and proclamations they always issue them in the singular and not in plural as 9:3 proves: ”A proclamation (SINGULAR) is herein (IN THE QURAN) issued from GOD AND his messenger to all the people on the great day of pilgrimage, that GOD has disowned the idol worshipers, and so did His messenger. Thus, if you repent, it would be better for you. But if you turn away, then know that you can never escape from GOD. Promise those who disbelieve a painful retribution.”9:3 The expression ”God and his messenger” is a singularity just as the expression ”God and the Messiah, son of Mary” in 9:31: ”They have taken their priest and their monks for lords besides GOD AND the Messiah, son of Mary. And they were not commanded but to worship the One God. There is no God but HE. Holy is HE far above what they associate with Him.”9:31 It is clear from 9:31 that the expression 9:31 is a singularity refering to biblical teachings that the people have abondoned by following their monks and priests. Yes 4:61 does say to refer matters of disputere to the messenger but the messenger always drew his authorities from the Scripture and never issued commandments and rulings that were not from the Scripture i.e the Quran as is proven by 5:43 ”WHY DO THEY ASK YOU to judge among them, WHEN THEY HAVE THE TORAH, CONTAINING GOD’s LAW, and they chose to disregard it? They are not believers.” The rabbinical jews came to the messenger hoping that he would love issue additional Rulings and teachings to the The Torah God’s Law but the messenger clearly made a stance that he would never issue rulings and teachings outside of God’s law in the Scripture.
