I had one of these growing up, so many memories, the fact it’s regarded as “vintage” makes me feel old 🥲

I almost bought one of these back in the day! I forgot all about RAD! Yes get a battery! I want to see him work. It's possible the battery was too old to make him move since that would use a lot of power.

took the battery after charging it to Batteries Plus and they said it has full charge. There's a hobby store near us going to head there and see if we can buy one.

RAD stands for "Radical", a term from the era that meant "Cool"! 🧔🏻👍

Hey there! That robot, except the electrical issues is in crisp condition and im surprised you found him for only a dollar. My dad actually bought me this toy back in 1999 and I just finished modifying mine today. The 6V battery was totally dead, and instead of just fixing that, I decided to completely replace all of its electronics with customizable programmable boards. Some coding, patience and soldering and my R.A.D. 1.0 is now working fine! I lost all of the 3 darts back in the day, and now all of it's speaking abilities are also disabled, but I replaced it's eye lights with some cool white LED's and I made a remote controller out of an old joystick I had. Overall great video, I love the enthusiasm, you've gained a subscriber! I'd love to see you make a comeback!

I want to keep the original programming (voice/actions) so I'm going to rig up servos to operate the original transmitter onboard the RAD and I have to set up a 7 channel or so receiver to use my flysky remote

The battery is bad not the robot. Give RAD a chance, he can drive in grass and pick up and carry a basketball. No other rc robot from the past or from today can do that. You could add in computer control if you want to learn to build robots. RAD has been used with EZ Robot hardware and software to build real working robots.

Took the battery to Batteries Plus and had it tested. It held it's full charge. Going to try again on RAD and see what happens. We've had him for a little while now - he never drove correctly and the 9V connector is bad. Will ask a local hobby store for help.

I remember how bad I wanted RAD but as he was 100 dollars at the time, he was always an unattainable toy.

in those days with those cheap chargers your battery was full when it was about to catch your house on fire

My charger has the light on it. It actually takes like 12+ hours to give the old batteries a charge. Even though they are the original batteries, I can run the robots for about 10 minutes. I'm sure a new battery would run longer. I know an hour charge won't do much. Just make sure you are keeping tabs on the battery when charging it, but they are Ni-Mh & not Ni-Cad or Li-ion. Even newer Ni-Mh batteries take forever to charge up. Have all 4 versions of the robots & even the R.A.D. 2.0 in the Ultra-Rare blue color! I worked for ToyMax for a few years. They were the original creators of "Laser Tag". They made a ton cool toys back in the 1990's-mid 2000's, but went bankrupt around that time.

SJ Gaming Boys - STEM Robotics true, like you said to me once, it’s hard to handle 3 cozmos, even though one is broken and I am so sorry about that, mine had the same issue, and I was really sad, I did get a replacement but it didn’t feel the same until a week or to, that’s what I love about anki, they’re making really smart engaging family robots, anyway keep up the good work and I hope you can fix your cozmo.
