Japan is also an individualist country. However, Japanese individualism values others. Japanese know that individualism is not selfish. The etymology of service is servant. In Japan, Tipping is not needed because the origin of Japanese customer service comes from the entertainment of people who come to temples and shinto shrine. In Japan, it ’s called OMOTENASHI.
I live in CA. I appreciate your point of view. In CA, I try to help some people, few times they refused my kindness, I felt awkward. But no matter what, I try to say thank you as much as possible to many people. Thank you 😊.
It’s very nice to know people from another country telling about life in Japan. I came back home in Japan after spending many years in the US. I didn’t notice when I was a kid but I feel same way. Next time you come to Japan, let me know! I will buy you a drink!!
I was born and raised in Japan but I live in VA now. I feel like here in America, you’ll have to be extra careful when you watch your kids. Kidnapping in this country is too common, it’s INSANE! I still remember the very first time I got an amber alert on my phone and I didn’t know what it was. I miss that a lot! 💔

I live in Hawaii and used lived San Francisco. I agreed everything you said!!
America is a one of young countries in the world though, Japan is basically doing Japan about 2500 years. Sometimes traditional Brushed-up habits or manners exist, but newbies have new sights. Good thing you bring back, tell us new ideas☺️ 基本的にずっと2500年くらい日本は日本だから、割と最近できた国とは形成されてる習慣とか癖とかマナーは全然違うだろうね。
