I think this song saved my life, when my husband died I completely gave up.. it's been almost 16 years since cancer took his life. Then my beautiful baby granddaughter died, and then my brother, and my mom died in December 23, now my big brother is dying again from cancer 😢 I come here and play this song over and over again, because it reminds me to just hang on. God Bless everyone out there, somehow we will be okay

I am 68, and it's been 4 months since my wife passed from cancer, and it has left me lost. I can't seem to get my bearing. At my age, I don't have much of anything to offer, so when someone says, hold on, don't give up, why would that apply to me? I eat every other day, I'm back to working 5days a week, I have no life, and deth for me is one step away! So for me, this song acknowledges that loss is real, and some are crushed by the weight of its pain. I love the song!

Oh Arthur, you don't have to get your bearings yet, it's only been 4 months since you lost your wife.. you have alot to offer but the time is not right for moving on yet for you, everyone has their own pace.. sadness is a terrible thing and I understand absolutely about not wanting to be here any longer, different circumstances but pain is pain.. I think it's harder as we get older, I'm 64 and when I feel like letting go....... I listen to this sometimes 6, 7, 8 times in a row, loud, I cry, I get angry, I get terribly sad but I keep playing it until it clicks........Hold On 💗

So Sorry to hear about your loss. No words can ever bring comfort to your broken heart. But, Because You loved your wife so sincerely, it shows that you Love passionately. That means you have LOVE in your heart that you can give to someone who is going through the same feelings like yours about their loss of a loved one. Look for that someone and share your Beautiful Love. Talk to a friend when you hurt. Sometimes it helps. Prayer can also be helpful. May Jehovah God comfort you. 🤟

I'm so sorry for your loss! I'm here because my poor momma is in the hospital dying of stage 4 lung cancer! She has been , as of today only days to live , and I don't mean to sound rude , but today I'm grateful for her to be finally be ready , and emotionally and mentally she is more then ready to be free of her old and aching earthly body! We've talked about the end on many , many occasions as I have been her sole caretaker for the last 3 and 1/2 years and belive me when I say I would do it all over again even though it was the single most difficult thing I've ever signed up for in my entire life! The time I spent looking after her and the memories I alone will have , man you can't buy that kind of time!! Helping her to mentally and emotionally prepare for her final journey was a once in a lifetime trip, I just hope and pray someone is there for me when its my time to transition!! The thing that is bothering me the most right now is that she can't have 1 visitor to see her and she really has got to do this all alone because of covid restrictions!! If I had known I wouldn't have allowed them to admit her , I would have and should have just brought her home so I could hold her as she takes her last breath as she held me when I breathed my 1st breath!! Again I'm sorry for your loss!! Much love , kindness and compassion to you and yours at this difficult moment!

I have fought for the past 7 years for my son's life. He is a good man who happened to marry a very abusive wife. He was in the Army and instead of listening to him they put him on drugs~! We got the dreaded call one night from the MPs that he had overdosed. He was in Oklahoma at the time and we are in NYC. My husband flew out and bought him home. We spent many months fighting for him and visiting him in psych wards. THIS song did the trick and finally got him to open up about what was going on his marriage!! He is now divorced. He is still living with us. I can proudly say his last attempt was 3 years ago. He graduated nursing school this year and is now studying for his bachelors. Through hard work with the VA i have learned to tell when he is not in a good place and have been able to lead him back to the light of day out of that long dark tunnel he would enter! Took 2 years to get his ex to allow him and us to have our grandchild for the summers and that was the biggest thing to help him!! I still play this song over the loudspeakers in my house to remind him HE is NOT alone and has loving family to stand by him!

Marianne, this song is a reminder that we're ALL on the same boat and only buy opening up and letting others know of our suffering can they help and make us feel that we're not alone. This is a very powerful song and it makes me cry every time. Your son was inspired by it to make the first step to ask for the help that you were so desperate to give. So many of us are so willing to give that support to others if only we knew that they desperately need it and all it takes is for us to realise that we are not alone. We are all connected. We were just temporarily separated at birth and we forgot it.

I lost my husband 3 weeks ago. He took his life and it's so difficult to carry on. This song touches me in so many ways. I am hanging on by the minute, the hour, and hopefully in the future by the day. Tonight we were supposed to celebrate New Years Eve together. He let himself go, the hurt was too great. If anyone out there is considering ending their life please know there is always help. You have to be brave and reach out. Because taking your life hurts the living. There are no words. P.S. It's been roughly 3 years since I wrote this above - so so touched by ppl's encouragement, wisdom, compassion, and those who've endured their own losses. Please know I'm doing well now. I'm raising our 3 teenagers with a full heart, empathy, and strength. Recently I have fallen in love with a wonderful man who warmed my heart and lit a fire in my soul. I've gotten to the end of this tunnel and found joy and happiness - the sun always shines after storms, just gotta keep the faith and hang in there. Thanks again everyone. Hugs and love to you all.

Even though I belong to a conservative church, partial to playing only hymns in the chapel, I have clearly instructed my family to play this at my funeral. We all know the gospel promises, but this secular song is also what I want my family to remember when they are mourning. I have always found it to be incredibly soothing. I love how in this video, Michael is leading the audience/choir as they can't help but join in. Thank you, R.E.M., for this musical gift.

@@oliviawutam thank you! I'm so proud of everyone❣We all have battles. We all have hardships and days where we're pleading for the insanity to stop. It comes from inside. The relief. You have to align your spirit up with God. Allow yourself to hear His voice. When we are at our weakest. He is at His strongest. We have no hope? Not true! HE IS OUR HOPE. BE strong in the power of His might. Allow Him to light your path. Have faith. The size of a mustard seed. Just look up and say I'm ready Father. Start thanking him for what you have. If its not much, just think, you have breath. You woke up.Thats Him. You ate something. That's Him. You put your coat on. That's Him. If you lived to see another day...praise Him.

I came into this life almost 69 years ago, fighting, crying, screaming and I intend to go out the same way!!!! You MUST endure the bad times because that makes the GREAT times that much better! We are all human beings, we all have felt pain, disappointment, loss, but all of us have also experienced the warmth of the sun, the beautiful view of a sunrise/sunset, heard the waves rushing in, rushing out, happy laughter, the thrill of a roller coaster, watching a child grow & discover, the excitement of that first love… Over my almost 69 yrs on this earth, looking back, I wouldn’t have changed a thing, good or bad because it all made me the loving, compassionate, person I strive to be EVERY DAY I have left! Every challenge, every adversity just makes me that much stronger to face the next challenge/adversity! You MUST BE STRONG to ride this roller coaster called LIFE! If I live to be 100+, my life will still seem too short! Love each day to its fullest, as it may be your last! When God calls, you have to answer that phone! ENJOY!

Sometime we can be faced with despairing, terrifying, dangerous, unpleasant situations. sometimes things go out of control. " sometimes everything is wrong". pain can feel overwhelming. sometimes it's too dark to see any hope on the horizon, but it will come. the pain will subsided, and you will be stronger than the person you were before the pain. for anyone who feels alone or desperate or at the end of their rope... keep hanging on, never give up. Keep your spirit and soul high. everything will be okay. I love you.

This song really pulls at my heart strings. I lost my little brother on January 12, 2021, and this songs makes me feel closer to him because of all the hardships he had been through in his life. He was the bravest, most real, and genuine person I ever met. The ultimate care giver. And after all of it, covid is what finally took him one day short of his 66th birthday. We had a simple ash scattering ceremony over Mobile Bay, and this song was playing. I couldn't ask for a better friend as we were growing up together. I love you Ric. Rest in peace, my little brother...

Dun give the song the credit, you carried your self trough. No song, no psychiatrist, no nothing will help if you don't man up and do the job. It might be a comfort and it might help, but the one carrying you, was you.

What a beautiful soul. I am nearly 60 years old and I still can't get through this song without a tear in my eyes. So much emotion flows through my veins with all that I have experienced in my life. I have so much to be grateful for. It's great to be alive

When your day is long And the night, the night is yours alone When you're sure you've had enough Of this life, well hang on Don't let yourself go 'Cause everybody cries Everybody hurts sometimes Sometimes everything is wrong Now it's time to sing along When your day is night alone (hold on, hold on) If you feel like letting go (hold on) If you think you've had too much Of this life, well hang on 'Cause everybody hurts Take comfort in your friends Everybody hurts Don't throw your hand, oh no Don't throw your hand If you feel like you're alone No, no, no, you are not alone If you're on your own in this life The days and nights are long When you think you've had too much Of this life to hang on Well, everybody hurts sometimes Everybody cries Everybody hurts, sometimes And everybody hurts sometimes So hold on, hold on Hold on, hold on, hold on Hold on, hold on, hold on Everybody hurts

Michael Stipe's voice resonated off of so many beautiful REM songs, but this song is probably my favorite, because the pain could be physical, emotional, mental, psychological, even spiritual but it say's" everybody hurts sometime, hold on.' to write something like thjis, you had to have lived it, and to have lived you, you managed to endure whatever the pain was. I've been through many layers of hell, and endured many level's of pain, but songs like "Everybody Hurt's or Jackson Browne's "For a Dancer" have managed to get me through the darkness, and pain, and endure life to the best of my capabilities. Thank's Michael for sharing your pain and hope with us. Peace

I lost my wife to ovarian cancer 7 years ago, she was young and would help anyone who needed help. They say the good die young. I will never get over it until I see her again in heaven. Felt like ending it all on many occasions just to be with her but I listen to this song and hold on. Thank you REM!

Every time a family member or a buddy I grew up with passes away I think of SKYNYRD's FREEBIRD I guess its because birds are free and in the words that RVZ and ALLEN COLLINS wrote he is saying, want you fly Freebird fly and that's what death means your free at last.
