When my daughter started her monthlies I basically freaked out and paced around the house going “oh s*it oh s*it oh s*it”, had to ask a random lady at Walmart what to buy, got a little misty eyed and eventually had the talk with her. I have no females in my family left.

I’m sorry for your losses. You’re brave for doing what you can to ensure that your daughter gets what she needs. There’s also doctors you can speak to if you need more help and to make sure your daughter doesn’t have any issues with her hormones and the like.

Don’t be afraid to ask folk on social media, there’s Koke that females like myself who are more than happy to help where we can, especially something like menstruation. Basically let your daughter know as she grows up that there are options like sanitary towels, tampons, and reusable moon cups (which come in different sizes, they’re not one size fits all). Sanitary towels tend to be the easiest for all ages, tampons are good for swimming (you can get them with an applicator to help with insertion, or no applicator where you only use your fingers) and other sports, and the moon cup a lot of women like using because it’s reusable, comfortable, and helps save on waste that can damage the planet. So don’t be afraid to ask on social media, there’s lots of groups where folk are happy to help

The period story, as someone who had the little girls parent think the same (never talking about what a period was) I can safely say that little girl definitely appreciated that OP took care of her. I was expected to know what a period was and how to deal with it. I will NEVER do what my parent or the little girl's parent did. Its important for everyone to know about periods, what happens, what you need to take care of it, that its natural, ect. There are grown men that think people can turn their period off and on. These men are fathers, husbands, bosses, managers, brothers, people in power, ect

Years ago I lived with my roommate and he had 3 girls. The middle one was was having her 13th birthday. He was fine with me talking to her about pads and showed her where they were kept. Also I told her I was always happy to help her if she has any questions. She had some knowledge and he was open to talking about these things and her mother was a nurse so she was covered educationally. It worked out well because she had come to me a few times with questions and needing help. I was so happy she was comfortable talking to me about these personal things.

I go there a lot and the wait staff know me well enough that I don't need to tell them my drink order or when I'm done and want the check... anyways, I eat with chopsticks while im there all the time and my choice of utensil is chopsticks. I was eating there a few weeks ago, like I said, and I was eating with chopsticks, when this Asian lady, (She doesn't work there and is not friends with the staff or owner) told me since I am White, I shouldn't use chopsticks. Apparently that means its cultural appropriation. I explain to here that its not and that anyone can eat with them. Plus they make your food not taste like metal. She got angry and started yelling in mandarin and the wait staff heard her and told her to leave. That was the end of it as she walked out cursing (I assume) in mandarin at me and the staff. it was funny.

I remember reading an article (I used to be a medical librarian) about a pregnant 12 or 13 year old. Her mother resented any help the nursing staff gave her daughter. She said no one had helped her, so why should her daughter have it better? I wonder why, having been a victim herself, she wouldn't want her daughter to be spared the pain she endured.
@salemcorriea5157
2 жыл бұрын
Honestly though, that part was so frustrating, if I had a daughter and she started her first cycle at a friend's house and one of the friend's parents helped her out, I'd be so thankful, that's something would do myself if my daughter had a friend over who started her first. I remember being 7 or 8 and having my warning period, I was screaming and crying, I thought I was dying. It's scary for a child with no experience, especially if they haven't been warned, they just see blood and assume the worse.

Years ago, one of my fave people at this company I worked at was a Pakistani engineer (he later became vice president of his product group when the business grew). He knew tons of languages, including Tagalog, and he used to blow the minds of many of our manufacturing staff who were Filipino. He was a brilliant man, also calm, outgoing, and just a joy to work with. And yeah I loved it when he'd flummox people who didn't know him by speaking to them in their own languages.

Glad to find other people decent enough to respect that a slur is a slur especially if you're white and saying a racist slur. My father (a very big ep) doesn't respect that and some of my family members say it sometimes as a "joke" because they know it makes me uncomfortable. 13:04 yeah I don’t get that, why is that mom not willing to tell her daughter about menstrual cycle. Is it out of control?
@strawberrysoulforever8336
4 жыл бұрын
She must be one of those parents who thinks her daughter shouldn't be told about anything until she's a legal adult. Periods allow the women who have them to get pregnant, so that's something she can't know about, even if she has it before she's eighteen (and I had my first period when I was TWELVE, so I would be in big trouble if I didn't know by then). Girls that get that kind of treatment are more likely to either be ashamed of their sexuality or a slut.
@the-nina-beans88
4 жыл бұрын
Hannah Shribman-Brown which is kinda mess up. Look teen girls are going to stay menstruating at 12-13 moms can’t hide it and just have accept it’s part of growing up. It really messed up where girls are raised to believe sex is bad and then mom who raised them like that wonders why they don’t have grandchildren.
@strawberrysoulforever8336
4 жыл бұрын
@@the-nina-beans88 Exactly. I see reasons the mom could feel that way, but I don't understand them. There's a reason schools have Health classes. It's enough to have to cope with emotional changes you don't expect without not being told the physical changes coming, which are predictable enough to warn about, and should be talked about.
@the-nina-beans88

@strawberrysoulforever8336

@@the-nina-beans88 I'm confused. I could have sworn I said that was one of the extremes that could happen if you DIDN'T talk about it. There are two extremes. The medium - being comfortable with sexuality and not over or under compensating - will happen if you do talk about it openly.

I want to know what this lady with a 14yr old having a period expected to happen genuinely. Her kid starts bleeding randomly one day and likely having bad cramps then asks no one anything at all until.......she's on a honeymoon with a dude? "She'd figure it out on her own!" Like what does that even mean? Humans might count as animals to an extent but all animals are different in learning. Just like no human just knows how to or that they have to do things like wear clothing, walk on 2 legs or speak within the first 1 hour of being born. Some animals can do a few of those things but not us.
