You may have heard this, but the original quote is "the customer is always right in terms of taste." Meaning, don't argue with the customer if they say they prefer less salt in their food, a softer mattress, a darker blue shirt, etc. People are correct in what they like and prefer. It wasn't supposed to give them free range to argue about pricing or company policy or anything other than whether they want to buy what you are offering them.

In Germany they started to establish the "Customer is King"-thing, Traditionally it always was: "The customer is a guest". (So the customer is very welcome and is treated like a well wanted guest, but is asked to leave if he/she can´t behave like a decent human being). My boss always let us work under the "Customer is king"-rule, which made the customers get into great Karens. I finally snapped and had the following conversation: Karen: "The customer is always right!" me: "You mean customer is king?" Karen "Absolutly right!" me totally serious: "We Europeans tend to decapitate kings." Karen finally said, she will never come back, I said it would be great if she wouldn´t come back and when she came back the next time she was nice like a guest, that wanted to get the wonderful service we provide and stay like a well behaved guest. My boss started to establish the "Customer is a guest" thing again.

Eh, the math lesson was acceptable, but surely not quite "really good". For one, he didn't realize that the last equation WASN'T LINEAR, it contained 2 variables being *_multiplied_* to each other, and consequently he gave an incorrect answer of 17... (So that's one restriction that would be put on the system: for n variables we would need n _linear_ equations.) Also, it's not always the case that n random equations are enough to lead to a unique solutions, they need to be independent to manage that. If i give you x+y=3 and 2x+2y=6, that's 2 equations with 2 variables, but still allows for a parametrized solution. :-B And finally, there was a 3rd place where he forgot to correct the 0.5 (when computing x = 3 - y = 3 - "o.5") :-B

TBF, the last "x" is here to trick peoples rather than testing maths. It's easy to get tricked in thinking that the whole problem is just figuring out what all 3 symbols are equivalent to by only having "+" sign for everything else. There's a few existing tricks of that kind like that. You think you've solved all there is to solve so you stop paying attention and just quickly look at the last line to answer. It happened to me when I first was confronted to that type of problem with the same trick as well, still remember how annoyed I was when I got it wrong lmao. After you got the three symbols corresponding value, you think you're done with the problem, quickly look at the last line and answer by adding the three symbols, missing the multiplication or any other silly trick they came up with for that last line. The faster you can solve that type of equations, the easier for you to underestimate the problem, and therefore the more likely you are to fall for that trick.

Accuracy ≠ precision. _(Edit: Erastothenes' estimate was about 1% under the actual circumference, per Wikipedia.)_ (I still remember, back when I was a grad student in physics, grading this one homework assignment where I kept seeing students compute the mass of the Sun to 5 decimal places … but their answer was a few hundred grams. the symbol of fries is 2, not 1. That's another thing that's wrong with the original post; you can't just make a symbol that's twice as big as another symbol and assume it is worth twice as much. That's just not how it works. To replace the symbols with letters, let's make soda X, Burgers Y, and "two fries" W. So the equations are: X + X + X = 30 X + Y + Y = 20 Y + W + W = 9 Y + V * X = ? You can't solve it, because we were never given the information necessary to establish the value of V (physically half of W)

The saying doesn't go "The customer is always right". Like many sayings, the actual point of the saying is lost by cutting out the essential part. The actual saying is: "The customer is always right - in matters of taste." If the customer doesn't like the food at a restaurant, the colour of the dishes you sell or the smell of the deodorant, they are right. If the customer tells you that they are entitled to a refund because *they* broke your product (for example), they are most definitely wrong.

@@christopherreichle6670 Eh, not everyone has facebok or has their address public on facebook. My dad specifically has a burner account he uses on facebook, he doesn't post, he doesn't friend people, he just uses it to use facebook in general. No info of him or his address. I keep my address private on there, but do reveal my state and a school or two I went to, since I've moved all over the state all my life. It would take backtracking through my family and then trying to figure out what family members I live with and/or contacting my family to get the full scoop on that for me. I also never post any pictures of my face on facebook because I am not photogenic imo, any photos on there of me are old ones from my mom or ones she posts to her account. I don't really do a lot of social media, especially in terms of sharing info. I'm probably most open on Reddit and Quora of all places, and neither has my address or even my photo, only my state and a lot of random trivia about me. Point is, it gets complicated. Government def knows my address and probably a few websites I bought something from before lol, but like, average person is gonna be HARD PRESSED AF to find it on any social media.

I'm pretty much in the inverse situation where I can just look at any time without the 12 hour format and automatically have it connected to a time of day, but with a 24 hour format, I gotta subtract 12. It's easy but also annoying.
@IsleNaK

@@monicakislo7845 I think most people don't use any math to read the time on a 24h clock. It's similar to not having to calculate how much 2+2 would be. You've done the 2+2 thing so many times that you just know that it is 4.

14:07 I’d argue having a big library is way more expensive than having a big tv nowdays. You can get pretty big tv for 500$/€ meanwhile books can cost over 20/book when buying new. Calculating that you can either get 25 books (which i’d say is still a ’small library’) or the big tv. (I know there’s option to buy books second hand which would make it cheaper but still I think bigger library is more expensive than the big tv)
@comradewindowsill4253

depends which books you're buying too. my dad buys scientific texts; he has an entire bookshelf full of them, plus a couple other shelves for fiction, and the scientific texts can cost hundreds.

@@comradewindowsill4253 true. I was mostly counting with about the average priced fictional hardcover book in this one. But it makes the point in it even better since non-fiction books that ’make you smarter’ are even more expensive to purchase. The post seemed very book=good, tv=bad type of post

@@ellie-blue honestly, book prices can be very strange at times. I once lost an old origami book published in the 80s, and trying to buy it again I found that most versions of it ran to 800 USD... God knows how, but I did manage to find a place selling a copy for 40 instead. It is a good book tho.

I mean, "pretty big" is also questionable... The size of the TV of my parents in law is just ridiculous in my opinion, but it's certainly what I'd call a big TV nowadays. What was "big" ten years ago when flatscreens weren't on the market for so long is pretty standard today. So, a big TV by todays standards will cost you about 2000-5000€... If you bought only eBooks, that would mean that you'd own around 300-550 books, which I'd consider a fairly large library (my own bookshelf at home has ~330 books in them), but if you buy paperback, then that number is already down to 140-350 books (still pretty sizeable collection). And hardcover? I stopped buying those when they hit 17€/book... That would only be 100-270 books... Basically my argument is to just go digital.

When I worked at Wendy's, when we got shitty customers that thought they were all that and "right". And we always had the managers deal with them. And my managers all had SASS. One time, one of my managers slammed the window shut, turned to us, and said, "Remember! The customer IS NOT always right!" And you can hear everything through the window, even when shut if youre loud enough.
@Clawleone

I heard that the phrase “the customer is always right” actually originated in clothing stores and basically meant “if the customer wants to look like a fucking clown, just say it looks good and get them to buy” but then a customer heard employees say it and thought that it meant something else, and now everyone that works in retail has to deal with the consequences.
