From _humans are exceptional_ to _humans are exceptional...ly full of themselves_. I love it.

Yeah...I took the time to peruse the comments following the story and it was a literal minefield. That the author is currently 'suspended' was not a great shock to me.

The 2nd story was very interesting, the fact that a Crow alien had a deal with a bunch of humans who think that from a death world is pretty funny

Thanks to Agro for this lovely reading of Excepting Humans, my only story on HFY. Converting a story styled after a wikipedia article into a pure audiobook form was likely a bit of a challenge. I'm happy to answer any questions or comments here since the original thread is locked.

Amanda - I don't want to hurt you with my voice. Me and xeno - What? I still find the concept of us as "deathworlders" hilarious. Dumbasses don't understand how biology and evolution actually work. Like a neophyte swordsman saying, "you stick 'em with the pointy end." (palm meet face)

The first story is really funny to me because humans as a group are actually fairly predictable. While it can be hard to anticipate the actions of an individual, and their decision making complexity adds wrinkles, collectively the rule of large numbers tends to clarify trends a great deal. Our more primitive needs drive us more than we'd like to admit and our intelligence spends most of its time justifying those desires rather than subverting them.

The problem with thost predictive studies is that they only observe and predict extremely basic factors in a very narrow scope of people and societies. A group of tribesmen from the Himalayas will react radically different to a group of new York city slickers for instance and a model that accounts for the myriad different human societies is simply not feasible.

it was hurtful to hear all that, is as if the human was thinking that hfy stories are reality and was complete impossible to understand that wasn't the case. I can only guess that this human was 5 year old child.
