We call them ironing board seats in Britain The UK government stipulated that these types of seats are used in all new trains It's in order to squeeze as many seated passengers in the train as the previous generation of trains with less seats meant that many people were standing for long distances
I'm local and use these trains just about every day. so far I really like the new Class 385 trains, the only downside to them are the seats which aren't very comfortable for extended periods of time, although you're only usually on this train for about 1 hour maximum. I used to use the Class 334 a lot and that's more of a commuter train with the lack of tables and more spacious interior. I like the Class 156 although they are old, slower diesel trains unlike the new fast electric ones. the Class 170 by far has the comfiest seats and is really good for longer distance travel. The class 380 is the train I currently use most often and I find that to be very pleasant with fairly comfortable seating for a commuter train and plenty of space, the only downside to the 380 is the smaller tables.

This is a train fan account and this is a vid introducing a commuter train developed by Japanese manufacturer Hitachi. People are excited to hear the machine sounds that is familiar with for them.
