My neighbors are kind of slobs and their yard always looks like crap with stuff strewn all over, so many cars and bikes in the yard, and they usually won't mow until they get a warning from the city. However, they're quiet, they keep an eye on things while I'm at work and will hold onto my packages for me so they don't get stolen, and they always ask before doing anything that's close to the property line. For example, last summer they had to cut down a tree in their yard that was dead. It was determined that the equipment could be put in place much easier and faster if it came through my yard. They asked permission, which I granted. When they were finished cutting it down they cut it into firewood and gave me a whole bunch for bonfires. I'll take messy neighbors over rude, sneaky, lying neighbors anytime.

Tree law. We had our own brush with that insanity for years. Though, in our case, we were the neighbors who wanted a neighbor's tree gone. This thing was a 70-80 foot monstrosity of a pine tree that sat just off the center of our neighbors' massive backyard in the direction of our property line. This thing was dropping pine needles in the volume of 4 160-litre bags of trash that we needed to dispose of....every month. Triple that for our neighbors themselves, the amount we were getting was just from the two behemoth branches that hung over our property. Oh and add to that the absolute hailfire of pine cones, the size and weight of hand grenades, which destroyed the roof of our garden shed constantly and had to be repaired and replaced at least three times. The stupid pine needles were everywhere, they clogged our rain drainage pipes on the roof, requiring hours of labor to clear them multiple times every year. They filled every crevice imaginable; it was an avalanche of brown refuse that also quickly became the home of all kinds of creepy crawlies everywhere if they weren't cleared out immediately (which would have to be weekly). At night, the sound of the trees pine cone airstrikes hitting (and punching holes in) our garden shed was enough to wake you up frequently. Especially if the windows were open. We hated that tree. It was a big, ugly menace that made our backyard look like pine needles had gained sentience and were waging a holy war on our property. I cannot stress enough how these things were absolutely everywhere. Simple tasks such as mowing the lawn became several hour long drags because you had to first clear out ALL the hundreds of pine cones from the lawn, lest they become angry ankle-murdering projectiles whenever the lawn mower sucked them up. Now, you might think it was our neighbors' who refused to get rid of it. You'd be wrong, they hated this thing more than we did, since not only was it so huge that it prevented sun from entering either of our backyards, but the pine needle and cone situation was several times worse on their property and they. Wanted. This. Thing. Gone. So, we all agreed this thing was too big, too evil and just too damn hideous to stick around. Well the answer is simple right, just cut it down? We're all in agreement after all. Wrong again. See, because of this thing's size and age (estimated well over 100 years old) meant that it was under environmental protection and we were *barred* from taking this thing down unless it presented a danger to inhabitants or property. We could not cut it down, we couldn't even prune its' monstrous half-ton "branches", I say branches but really it was just more pine trees growing out the side of this abomination. So we were informed that any attempt to remove or damage the tree would be met with a fine regardless of the fact that it was located on private property. So that was that. For a while. Fast forward a few months and storm season rolls around and one of the baby trees spawned from it's gianourmous trunk snapped off during a medium-strength tropical storm. Now, if that half-ton murder bombshell had actually touched the ground from where it snapped instead of being caught in the other murder-branches it would have flattened our shed and whatever poor soul had happened to be inside it or underneath it in general. So we begin work to remove the offending branch from the tree carefully. We let the city know, it's a danger to us now and can we please remove it now? Nope. Nobody was harmed and no property damaged after all. They ignored the fact it was pure chance that it did not in fact annihilate our solid timber shed and all of its' contents. Fine, but when it finally would inevitably destroy something or someone, we made sure that we wouldn't pay for its' removal since they've made it clear that though the tree is on our neighbor's property, it did not belong to them. And sure enough, after enduring another year of the monster-tree's BS storm season rolls around yet again. Wouldn't you know it, it's a pretty bad one. We watch in awe as this tree bends in ways you did not think 80 foot trees could bend without snapping and finally just smashes into our neighbor's roof and yeets half the stone-brick chimney right off of it. The tree itself miraculously bend back to whence it came, but not before taking a good portion of the roof tiling with it. So we've had enough and again call the city and let them know that the tree smashed into a house and if it had actually fallen over instead of just bumping into it, it might well have brought a good chunk of the house (and the people therein) down. And since they'd made it so abudantly clear that it wasn't our tree we were sure to send them the bill for getting rid of this thing, because they wouldn't send someone out to do it. (it took almost two weeks to get this thing out and away (we didn't bother with the roots since the inspector said they likely covered an area stretching across several adjacent propertins and he recommended to just let them be and rot away and if it sprouted any saplings to just either harvest and sell them or destroy them, not so valuable when they're tiny I guess). Oh, and we had a relative replace the chimney and roof on the neighbor's house as well. Sent them the (generously inflated) bill for that too. They paid up without incident. And thus ended the saga of the monster pine.

@@JustAKomiFan to answer both of your questions, in america it is generally the white oak tree. in suburban areas prices of high quality white oak trees can got up to but are not limited to 1000 dollars per *YEAR* of age. this is due to their difficulty to root properly in such close proximity to human civilization, and their inherent pollution. so white oaks in suburban areas could cut well into the low to mid six digits at peak value depending on the age of the tree. generally speaking here in the rural area i live in, white oaks are still highly regarded, and usually people will avoid cutting them down unless absolutely neccesary.

Yeah...White oaks are extremely hard to cultivate and grow up into full trees and take in upwards of 30 years to reach full maturity. Plus, there's the fact that the new brought in mature trees might NOT take root in the soil. That's to say, the neighbor got off easy, and should have been arrested for vandalism, and destruction of personal property, as well as lying about an official document. (Certain places have legalities regarding forged documents like that.) I'd say that the owner of the trees should have gone through court and not settled out. Make the neighbor pay for the atrocity. White oaks are beautiful.

@@asrieldreemurr2897 As Cody mentioned, white oak is a very difficult tree work with. It's very picky about soil and air conditions and takes a long time to grow.
