Many years ago I bought a LP of Vilayat Khan in jugalbandi with Imrat Khan. It was titled ‘Night at the Taj.’ They played this raga on that LP. The sitar part of that is exactly what Ustad Nishat Khan is playing here.

The raag was glorified by ustad bade ghulam Ali Khan Saab in his haydays. Raag vachaspati (chandni kalyan) was ustad vilayat Khan saab's masterpiece.

Thanks for this beatifullmelodius upload. Just few days before ustad nishats illustratious genius father great sitarist and surbahar player left us. But the one of the great thing he did was he taught his sons his tradition of classical music and now every body knows nishat and irshad are torch bearers and magnificent sitar players. I suggest nishat, irshad to propagate their geniusness by teaching more and more students like his father.

The late Imrat Khan's 4 sons (Nishat, Irshad, Wajahat and Shafaat khan on tavla) should all do a proper jugalbandi concert in memory of their father. It will not only be a great crowd puller, it will be a fitting tribute to their illustrious family's history, and focus the world's attention on the great contributions made to Indian music by them.

What a great hommage to his father, great uncle and forefathers...after Chandni Kedar, Hameer with this particular bandish of Vilayat Khan saheb, followed by Bihagda? ( Sorry if mistaken) and then shudd maloo once presented by Vilayat Khan saheb...

this is more Chandni Kedar than Kedar. Nevertheless Ustadji does a good job. Would love a bit more time on Alaap/Vistaar. And then why move to another raag rather than staying and finishing that first ?
