There's more to cars/engines/electronics in these modern times than probably ever before. Gone are the days of 60 and 70 amp alternators with a fan blade on the exterior on street driven or street driven "race cars"(you know those guys!).
Some engine management systems can pull 50 amps by themselves and that's not even counting ALL of the extra components we add to them that usually all work AT THE SAME TIME, especially under a full load/WOT situation......in the heat! That ol' electric carb choke doesn't seems as thirsty now, huh? :)
Multiple cooling fans, multiple fuel pumps, voltage boosters, coolant/water pumps, solenoids, transbrake and even possibly a mild radio setup. It's crazy!
This is a quick hit on one of the more common snags customers run into when heavily modifying vehicles and moving the battery around in the vehicle. VOLTAGE DROP can ruin your day real quick if you're not watching your logs or gauges. Most race cars don't need huge amperage but they do need the proper power and ground paths to combat overworking your alternator and burning up various voltage dependent equipment you spent your money on!
