I’m so inspired listening to Astrid Feyer. I’m 56 yrs old, completed my 10th marathon in 2022 ( 5 x NYC marathoner ) I started running at 50 with a few injuries along the way. This year I hope to master the MAF Method to help me reach my 2023 NYC Marathon goal. Thank you for sharing Astrid’s story 🫶🏼

I personally know Astrid myself and she is also a wonderful and humble person. Rarely she speaks about herself as she is genuinely interested in other people. Huge respect for her and her contribution to the running community.

Is it working for u? I want to know as a beginner do u have off days even though ur running so slow? If fatigued does that mean ur heart rate means ur walk?

Thank you for this outstanding conversation, and congratulations to Astrid! Just raced my first 200-mile ultramarathon on my 59th birthday weekend and maintain a similar regimen, although it’s a little less difficult once you’re an empty nester ;-) Floris, I appreciate you interviewing athletes such as Astrid who, while not a professional runner, is a true and inspirational competitor with a great outlook on training, racing, family and life. Thank you Floris for this very interesting video chat with Astrid. I met her in Perth at a Master's Athletic running event. She was very encouraging and mentioned Maf training. Good luck to Astrid in her training for the NY Marathon in 2023. 🗽🏃

The one thing I would like to hear is the person that there best after a lot of work is around 3:30 marathon/21 min 5k, and then through MAF get there times down to sun 3 marathon and 18 min 5k. I feel like all of the MAF made me faster interviews are with people that already had fast abilities but MAF just helped them increase their volume.

What an inspiration! I am currently 43, and only got back into running for the first time since high school last year. It's amazing to see women (particularly busy working moms such as myself) making it happen!

i heard that with full fat adaptation something i am in because of my asthma, otherwise i need an inhaler, training intensity can be increased with quicker recovery. Of course once fat adapted with more intensive training you have to sprinkle in more carbs not to stress out the body to much. And it is sometimes harder without the carbs to really run harder in more intense sessions, especially during the adaptation phase. There is a german guy named daniel pugge with his own channel you really gets amazing results with being in between keto and low carb. But astrid is already having such an amazing time!!

Incredibly inspiring interview, Floris! Thank you for this and thank you Astrid for sharing your journey with us. I hd heard about you, Floris, and MAF a few months before my first in person marathon here in Dublin. I am not fast, nor am I young or naturally gifted (42 yrs old and only picked up running in 2014 after becoming a mom). Would MAF still benefit someone as slow as me? My time was 4:53:12. My goal time had been just under 4:30 but severe hamstring cramping slowed me down to a wobble on the second half. I’d like to give MAF a go but don’t really know where to start. Again, thank you for a wonderful episode!

You're going to have a blast running the NYC marathon, well done on qualifying, that's half the battle haha. I would like to be there at the NYC marathon 2023, not sure I'll run it this year, since I already ran it in 2019 and have 3 international World Majors that are priorities. Enjoy your training journey for NYC, get some bridge / hill training in as well! :)

Thanks so much. Awesome info... Question, so your PB was at 20 yo? With the 2:50 marathon? And that is avg 14-15 KHM speed.... ...can you please tell me, at that speed, what is your cadence (e.g. 180 steps per minute)?

Should we be talking about the risks of endurance running - specifically Atrial Fibrillation as an ethical disclaimer. We all are at increased risk when we go above about 2.5 hours a week of endurance exercise. Younger runners at higher risk.

I’m 58 and have a MaxHR of 200 confirmed by my cardiologist. Checking recent fairly hard 5k runs, my average HR is 180 over the course of the run and I hit a max of 199. MAF uses an age calculation which would give me a MAF of 180-58=122. I cannot run at all at this HR. I can however brisk walk at this HR. I was hoping to use MAF but don’t believe 122 is the right MAF for me. Given my heart age is 20 (220-MaxHR), I have looked at other aerobic base formulas and have decided to try the heart rate reserve formula instead. This means I use my resting HR (55bpm) in the formula to arrive at 141-155bpm 60%-70%. Do you think this is a good strategy? Does strict MAF really work for everyone? How common am I too have such a high MaxHR for my age? Maybe you could do a vid addressing this issue as I have not seen anyone address it? Liking your content 👍

Try the MAF… you can do it! I’m 64 which makes my bpm 116, I never thought it possible. It is possible, I have to walk a bit to keep heart rate down. I normally run long runs (10-20 miles) around 9-9:45 pace & my 5K pace this past week on a turkey trot was 7:55 . Keeping heart rate at 116 my pace this morning for a 5 miler was 12:27…gotta leave your ego at home. I am only on day 14 of the MAF running & it’s really fun 😅 @purelife1944
