i drove 2.5hrs from San Jose to attend this Spartan race lol. It was a great trifecta weekend. Parking was a mess on Saturday race day due to rain on the preceding days. We were warned about the squirrel holes. Beautiful area. thanks for all you do OCR Kings!

Good advice about running a beast before trying an ultra at a particular venue. Really smart idea, thanks for sharing.

Hey gang, I'm really glad you all covered this race. I ran my first competitive Ultra last weekend and I echo Tom's opinion that it was a great choice for a first. Made 6h26m. Deceptively difficult due to the heaps of mud and the variety of terrain (sand, weeds, mud, grass, squirrel holes, mud, mud, mud). Tom didn't mention it but Spartan actually did some clever new things with the obstacles in San Jose. They made the bell on Multi-Rig REALLY high so you had to really swing up to it. They also pre-muddied the Incline Wall's rope so that it was nearly impossible to grip early in the competitive wave. Minor I know, but worth mentioning. The bucket carry was also REALLY long (measured 1/3-mile). Great venue, great race, definitely going back.

i also raced booth days. On Sunday they fixed/corrected it. They lowered the bell on the Multi-Rig. I talked with the volunteer and apparently the person who set it up didnt undo the straps correctly on Saturday.

@@dolphinalex oh that's funny, I thought it was on purpose and really liked it, half the people I saw got to it and oh crap didn't have a swing to reach it

Dang I got beat to the race review by that same dude. I might’ve seen him at the venue. Wanted to give O2 Hydration and Born Primitive a shoutout. A photo of me actually made it on “best of.” I’m wearing red headband and I got the “born primitive” logo on my shorts. Thanks for the video!

@@OCRKings very cool! One thing I should’ve mentioned…..I’m on the helix obstacle. That should narrow it quite a bit! 😎 Thank you!

I live in Modesto, and it rained a bit leading up. Volunteered the Saturday before and we got rained out a couple hours earlier than our scheduled stop time.
