! @@christiandelavigne4718Rachmaninov’s music is very emotive and technically challenging, requiring a blend of intense sensitivity and incredible technical skill. Previously, I held Horowitz as his ideal interpreter. Today we’re lucky to choose from several heirs - Trifonov is definitely one, Yuju Wang is another, and, as you mention, Lim. They all have a mastery of technique and interpretation that makes it difficult to select a winner - three Horowitzes instead of one. I do not include extraneous factors, like Wang’s dress or Trifonov’s antics; I just focus on the music and their interpretation. That said, I realize that some may find extraneous factors as off-putting - so be it.

Daniil is the equivalent of the method actor to music. Every musical phrase is an action towards a greater goal and consequently every note is filled with meaning and life. No classical pianist has ever touched me so deeply. This has got to be the 20th time I've watched this video from beginning to end and I cry every time. Truly remarkable. Besides the incredible performance by both Daniil Trifonof and the orchestra, I think the audio technicians also did a wonderful job. It's one of the few recordings on KZitem where I can clearly hear both the piano and the orchestra in the last few bars.
@davi.poiani
2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! That is one of the things I always observe as well... There are great performances out there, by amazing musicians and orchestras... But the audio quality is often below par or even really bad. Here they have done a great job capturing the audio. If you listen with a good pair of headphones, you might think it is a studio recording.
@Fred-yq3fs
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly, it's very clear. The acoustic is very well captured and used. All too often the recordings would be botched in hope to be fixed in post production, but if the signal has not been captured then post prod can't fix anything, and it becomes a blurp of sound. This is not the case here. Technicians worked hard and well for sure.
@augustinm.5788
2 жыл бұрын
I think that can be explained by the fact France Musique (the channel of the video) is a French Radio, so they put the audio recording quality as their priority (rather than having a huge room, etc)
@willschlueter2478
Жыл бұрын
A big reason for the clarity at the end is that, unlike everyone else at that spot, Daniil is not using any pedal. You can hear each of the D major chords clearly struck as he moves up the keyboard. To me, it's a much more energetic and exciting effect, rather than the usual cacophony of blah at the end. I think the key to making Rachmaninoff come alive is clarity and rhythm, and he does that here.

I have been saying this about Daniil Trifinov from the beginning of his career. His 'physicality" is also exuberance, a spiritual component of his youth, but then, there is deep understanding, that as you say, normally only comes from experience (if it comes even then). What I am even more excited about is his composing. I recently heard HIS piano concerto, him playing his own piece and though he is clearly using Rach. and other late Russian romantics as his musical vernacular, there is an astounding originality in his composition, there are many new sounds and good new sounds, that I cannot connect to any other composer or composition in any fashion. Some are so "new" sounding they jump out at you, but in a very appealing way. I am very curious to see where his composing takes him, keep in mind, early Beethoven sounded a little like Mozart and early Berlioz and Bizet, like Beethoven. If he is the future of classical music, I'm all in!

I never quite understood these “weird” facial expressions that pianists make, but specially Trifonov’s, which are very different and somehow even scary. After many years of playing the piano and some unimportant recitals, I decided to perform in the school’s breaktime Chopin’s Polonaise Op. 44, which is a reasonably difficult piece. I thought I was already used to performing publicly, but in school the nervousness was in a completely different level. My whole body was shaking throughout the piece, my hands sweating and sliding through the piano while my heart was beating so fast it seemed it would come out of my mouth. I managed to play it anyway, but that’s not the thing. That state of nervousness blocked any kind of rational thought into my brain. Past and future didn’t exist anymore. It wasn’t like I was focusing on the present moment, it was like there really were no future or past anymore. I couldn’t think of the way or how I was going to play the next part, I was being guided by some ultra pure intuition, maybe the most insane experience I ever had… and, of course, i felt much more immersed. When I finished, I didn’t even remember how I played it at all. Now, every time I see this performance of DaniiI, I remember that. I can recognize the exact feeling of how it is, and I can only imagine how his could be so much bigger than mine.

Trifonov was born in March, 1991. This makes him 24 years old at this concert. Unreal, isn't he. Twenty-four years old. I feel sure that Rachmaninmoff was watching this performance from whatever space in the sky he now occupies. I am confident he would be quite amazed and pleased. It sounds funny, and of course it isn't true, but remember Rachmaninov both lived and played when the new Concert Pianos got to their peak, and everybody were fascinated of what one can do with this amazing instruments "A whole orchestra hides inside it!!!". Plus Rachmaninov himself was a marvelous pianist with large hands... so it makes sense that he tried to bring out the most.... also in the "number of notes"....

Rachmaninoff, is by all means incomparable in this indescribably magnificent piano concerto,, Composing such a work with this utter complexity and remarkable beauty in the mean time, is some kind of a miracle... As for the performance, this was really one of greatest I have heard and seen concerning this concerto, Trifonov especially, was absolutely magnificent, technically and emotionally, his articulation was superb, and of course needles to say how Chung was brilliant master in spinning this remarkable orchestra with the piano, in order to obtain in the end such a historical performance ,, We wouldn't also forget the highly skilled sound recording, and finally, a great salute to everyone that shared in this dazzling performance.

Extraordinary. Trifonov is a man with his own ideas so we are treated to a performance that is different and unique. Credit to Myung-Whun Chung who does a superb job in accomodating the orchestra to Trifonov's fregquent changes of tempo. What can one say? Daniil has put an immense amount of thought into how each section of the concerto will be played. And no one puts more effort into the performance -- he plays like a man possesed. A wonderful and memorable performance.

Skip the way Daniil looks in certain passages. He is a master, and we usually allow masters to do whatever they want to do. Hopefully also this time. The way he plays this Rach 3 is astonishingly good, and we all can sit there and enjoy it for free. So be happy, instread of making up plans for your saying that you dont like it. You are looking at music history here. Some time in the future all "knowhowers" will sit there in a studio and use many words in trying to explain the grandness of this Daniil Trifonov.
