Wonderful duet as an alternative to a full orchestra. It helped me hear more clearly more of the notes and different melodic voices of this monumental piece, played at a pace that felt just right. I shall listen to more of this. Big thanks to Jun Asai and Michael Sushel.

RACH 3. Met 2sz piano Don t they have a celestial 432Hz model You will not believe your ears and conquer the world This an oldie 1911 tuned as should kzitem.info/news/bejne/ppmCsntqn5ymfHY
Bravo/a to you both for this excellent accomplishment you should be very proud of. As a piano fanatic, I've heard this work countless times with orchestra but I never realized that this concerto shines for me even brighter on two pianos! It becomes an astonishing super-sonata. Everything makes more sense with no vast orchestra to overshadow the piano's power and sometimes hide the subtle tonal colors. The playing, in case it's not obvious, is excellent and so very earnest. Who needs the orchestra when you have these two!

I must amend my already enthusiastic response to MAGNIFICENT! the closing pages were as emotional and thrilling as I’ve ever heard on KZitem…and I’ve seen and heard hundreds. I hope that audience fully comprehends what they just witnessed… pianism of the highest order.

the most breathtaking two pianos version of this concerto on youtube. the precision, the clarity, the companionship... i cant even comprehend how lucky these crowds were
This video is extraordinarily lovely. For 26:49-27:43 The Russian Folk-style really comes through on two pianos, better than with full orchestra accompaniment, I think.

Interestingly, this arrangement for two pianos- performed amazingly here by both pianists - works just as well as the original for piano and orchestra!

A beautiful beginning to the 2nd movement by the "orchestra", followed by a passionate entrance by Ms Asai. Some excellent pedaling toward the close of her entrance...a lost art. at 24:45 the interplay of counter melodies is lovely. Got the CHILLS at 25:20. Beautiful realized climaxes there and what follows to the section I call the little "Grand Valse.: I see the Czar's palace...dancers whirling about...beautifully played here. The opening of the 3rd is dynamic, powerful, exciting...all one could want. BTW for ME, the tempo is spot on PERFECT. This so well thought out, and confident. One never gets the feeling this music is entirely in her hands. At 31:34 and the next little bit, due to the performers not having eye to eye contact there is a tiny lack of cohesion, but again, to be expected, and no serious issue. 33:12...this is just so nice, an area often rushed through, here played with thoughtfulness... At 34:12, lovely cascading arpeggios, like a waterfall, as intended by the composer.. So many nice touches throughout this entire performance. Kudos for lovely ensemble playing through the transitory pages to 37:53, again, those lovely arpeggiated figures from Ms Asai. At 39:06, nicely done by Mr Sushel! His contribution cannot be underestimated. At 41:30, wonderful expression of this theme...so musical. Later on, one can here strings rattle!!! 45:48...WONDERFUL!! The closing theme, with ALL the emotion one would want. Here is where we miss the strings and horns, the legato...but no worries, it closes with all the passion one needs. Her energy at this close is just so inspiring. This version is MUST viewing for young pianists planning to perform in this manner. The attention to detail is stunning, the sound is very fine (thank you Benjamin), and the performances by both pianist is remarkable. (Mr Sushel's semi -"TUTTI" before the final octaves just perfect). Really, this is pianism of the highest order, and I expect no less than a stellar career for Ms Asai. Bravo, and many thanks.

An excellent performance from both pianists, in total harmony. I really loved the clarity, touch and insight from the first piano. And a special shout out to the second piano; the orchestra was represented beautifully and accurately, at the same time owning the score as if it had always been written for the piano only. Loved it.

Thank you for posting this! I had always wished a recording existed of this from the NYC Steinway's basement "Hall" when Vladimir Horowitz had arrived in New York and Rakhmaninov immediately took him there to play this two piano version, with the composer offhandedly improvising additional incredible orchestral parts and fills!!!

What AUTHORITATIVE playing! Bravo, and Kudos to her accompanist (teacher?) Asai is playing at the highest level on the 1st movement. This is MOST musical playing! The momentum is there, and so is the tenderness. Due to the closeness of the recording, dynamic variation is slightly lacking, but not an issue for me. At 8:48, spine tingling accelerando...LOVE it. As a former classical pianist in college, I can say iot is significantly more difficult to keep one's focus when the accompaniment is not orchestral but of a similar timbre. Again, nary a false move here. The "Ossai" cadenza is DEVOURED by the pianist. Beautifully judged, pianism of the highest order...I'm having trouble avoiding tears here. This COMMITTED young woman is just wonderful. The closing pages are evocative, and NOT anti-climactic, as can often happen, due to the cadenza's impact. She rightly refused to let that happen. n her hands, I'ver not heard a Yamaha sound better. Due to time, I will have to continue to listen/watch later. If the following 2 movements are anything like the first, I'm in for a terrific experience. Once more, kudos to both pianist and "orchestra!!"
